More Jihadi-Stopping Power, Please
AP of all news organizations is making the case for more killing power for hated Crusaders, pitching the quick kill/knock-down benefits of the M14 with its hefty 7.62mm slug over the M4 and M16’s daintier 5.56mm round.
Reportedly less prone to jamming in the dusty climes where our infidel forces are now engaged in righteous battle with dastardly jihadis, too. Plenty of technical information for gun nuts/experts to argue about here. Not my area of expertise, though I found this part informative:
Paul Howe was part of a U.S. military task force 15 years ago in Mogadishu, Somalia’s slum-choked capital, when he saw a Somali fighter hit in the back from about a dozen feet away with an M855 round.
“I saw it poof out the other side through his shirt,” says Howe, a retired master sergeant and a former member of the Army’s elite Delta Force. “The guy just spun around and looked at where the round came from. He got shot a couple more times, but the first round didn’t faze him.”
The article has various experts debating targeting, slug size, barrel length, weight, etc. It looks like it’s intended as a Pentagon-bashing piece, which is fine. It’s the role of journalists to act as watchdogs, see to it that government is operating effectively and efficiently. In this case, the AP is apparently concerned our soldiers are not putting big enough holes in jihadis, and not killing enough jihadis fast enough. More like this, please.
