North Korean spy “used sex as a tool for her spying.” It’s a low-budget Bond scenario, as model defector/anti-communist speaker Won Jeong-hwa is accused of taking in $60,000 in cash and goods for funneling information she got after seducing a Capt. Hwang, among others who apparently let their little hwangs do the thinking. via Boston Herald. She’s apparently only the second North Korean spy arrested in the past decade. Sheesh, either the SKs aren’t trying very hard or the NKs aren’t. Times of London:
She arrived as a refugee, one of tens of thousands to have fled the world’s most oppressive regime, and for seven years Won Jeong Hwa was a model defector. She toured South Korean military bases to lecture on the evils of the homeland she had escaped, the totalitarian communist state of North Korea.
But Ms Won had a secret. According to a confession made to South Korean police, she was a spy who seduced the military officers she met, and plotted assassinations with poisoned needles. Now she faces execution for treason in a sensational case reminiscent of the height of the Cold War.
Prosecutors in the city of Suwon described how Ms Won allegedly slipped through security checks carried out on all would-be defectors, raising questions about how many more spies might have entered South Korea. “We merely suspected that there might be spies mixed in with North Korean defectors during the reconciliatory mood of the past 10 years, and had no evidence,” the senior prosecutor, Kim Kyeong Su, said. “The suspicions have turned into reality.”
Cat seems to have got the NKs’ tongue on the subject, though there is a pretty good denunciation of “brigandish” U.S. behavior re nukes.
