Bridge Goes Somewhere
Gleeful lefties, exultant that at least one of their anti-Palin planks hasn’t collapsed, stop mid-span to enjoy the view. They even have a couple of Wall Street Journal scribblers in the backseat.
But it looks like where that bridge goes is the island of Bullshit. AP, of all places, does a factcheck and notes that the bridge claim is built on shaky pilings.
Obama camp’s “for it before she was against it” line fails to note that Palin’s much-touted gubernatorial support for the $398 million bridge was “wishy washy,” a matter of keeping options open while favoring a more modest transporation option for the 7,500 residents of Ketchikan Island than the “grandiose” bridge then being proposed.
Speaking of being for it before they were against it, how come Alaska Dems pulled their web page crediting Palin with killing it?
Meanwhile, there’s some dispute about who racked up a bigger pork order, Obama or Palin. Weekly Standard:
… WSJ reporters imply that McCain said Obama requested about $700 million more in earmarks than he actually did. In fact, ABC’s Jake Tapper reports that McCain is right: “Since joining the Senate in January 2005 he has requested 330 projects totaling $931.3 million, according to his Senate website where he discloses all his requests.”
The WSJ reporters also write that “Gov. Palin has requested $750 million in her two years as governor — which the AP says is the largest per-capita request in the nation.” But Tapper reports that “In two years as governor, Palin sought 83 federal earmarks at a cost of $453 million, according to the Anchorage Daily News.”

Not so different, and fun. Surber: The Skateboarding Pigs of Vermont. At least Bernie’s honest enough to call himself a socialist.
With thanks to Memeorandum for these important transportation and sausage-making links.
