JFKlueless in ‘08
Kennedy wannabe still running against George Bush. Sounds so … 2004. Somebody better tell him pointing out that he lost his party’s sure thing four years ago might not be the best 2008 campaign line.* Boston Globe:
“Good news tonight. Number one, we won this primary,” Kerry said. “And number two - and frankly probably a lot more important - there are only 128 more days of George Bush.”
Correct me if I’m wrong here, but I’m pretty sure Bush will be gone on 1-20-09 whether people vote for Kerry or not. Just like he was still there on 1-20-04, Kerry votes notwithstanding. (Side note: all those people with the “1-20-09″ bumperstickers better have some acetone handy on 11-5-08 unless they want to look like they voted McCain-Palin on 11-4-08.)
Kerry crows about only taking a 33 percent hit in a low-turnout Dem primary against a nobody he massively outspent. Boston Herald:
Kerry later told the Herald that while he expected to win, he felt 70 percent was a strong finish for an incumbent facing voter anger over the shaky economy and stock market collapse.
“I understand the anger,” Kerry said. “Now we have an obligation to go to Washington and work for the people.”
Let’s see. He managed 62 percent against George Bush’s 37 percent in Blue Mass in 2004. This time, facing Ed Who? from Gloucester with no statewide GOP race, it was Dems and people who came out especially to vote against him. 67-33 starts to sound like complacent Mass Dems have a rage problem.
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Howie Carr sounds bitter. Look at it this way, Howie. We still have John Kerry to kick around. And probably still will on 11-5-08, due to the massive forces that Kerry commands … by virtue of being a Democratic incumbent in Massachusetts, regardless of his 24-year status as a backbench coattails rider.
* I’m guessing he just tipped his hand on the big general election strategy: Beatty means four more years of Bush policies! The fact is, Kerry could do what he’s done for Massachusetts and the nation for the last 24 years … pretty much nothing … and still win this. He could do what he did for his boat crew in Vietnam … take a powder four months into a year-long command … and still win, despite the best efforts of the GOP candidate Jeff Beatty, former Delta Force and CIA officer.
OK, nothing to see here, moving on.
