Perfect Storm

Dennis Prager at RCP warns of liberal rage vs. America if Obama loses. It’s the racism thing. Liberal rage is a pretty impotent thing and not terribly worrisome. Look at how well that worked in the abandonment of Iraq, the exercise of the big mandate in Congress. Aside from a handful of so-called anarchists who really haven’t been that impressive, and sporadic cases like the gay rage of San Francisco’s White Night Riot, white libs haven’t managed to work up a good violent rage for 40 years, and then it was just because the alternative was actually having to go fight people who wanted to kill them. A bigger concern, as Prager notes, is a Rodney King reaction, if violence-prone fringe elements in the black community have enough rage worked up. But that’s not liberal rage. That’s poverty-steeped, race-stoked rage.

The libs like to lay claim to that. But the only liberal thing about that will be any encouragement it gets from irresponsible black liberals, such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and others like them at the local level, though even the influence of that may be irrelevant. The combination of economic woes with a political loss could be a perfect storm with devastating effect for some black neighborhoods and the people who live and work there … places where the foreclosure crisis has already hit hard, thanks, some people now say, to lib-pushed housing initiatives. But for people inclined to burn, loot, beat and even kill, all the need is an excuse. I will be amazed it anything white liberals think or say has any influcen whatsoever on what happens post-election, though Prager suggests a link:

If Obama loses, it will not be deemed plausible that Americans have again rejected a liberal candidate, indeed the one with the most liberal voting record in the U.S. Senate. Liberals will explain an Obama defeat as another nefarious Republican victory. Combining contempt for many rural and middle-class white Americans with a longstanding belief in the inevitability of a Democratic victory in 2008 (after all, everyone they talk to despises the Republicans and believes Republicans have led the country to ruin), there will be only one reason Obama did not win — white racism.

One executive at a black radio station told me when I interviewed him on my radio show at the Democratic National Convention that he could easily see riots if Obama loses a closely contested election. Interestingly, he said he thought blacks would be far more accepting of a big McCain victory.

I pray he is wrong on the first point. But it does seem that liberals are continuing to do whatever they can to increase anger at America, or at least at “white America.” For 40 years, liberals have described the most open and tolerant society on earth as racist and xenophobic. If Barack Obama loses, the results of this liberal depiction of America may become frighteningly apparent.

There is a distinct possibility of riots. White liberals will have little to do with it except as a cheering squad, because in the end, despite their best efforts, no one listens to them except themselves. That’s why Bush was elected, twice. That’s why the Dem Cong mandate turned out not to be one. The sole white lib influence on any race riots will have been in the role they played propelling forward an ill-prepared presidential candidate with bad ideas, simply because he was charismatic, black and had a couple of good buzz words.

How perfect is that storm? Here’s someone who looks at recent history and posits rioting, win or lose. “Black and Right,” vid via Feldsparia.

Here’s Obie himself, blaming pending race riots on Bush a year ago in front of a crowd of 8,000 in Hampton, Va. Riots still pending. Good thing. Otherwise we’d have to dicker over whether he was race-baiting or shouting fire in a burning theater.

IMO, riots following an Obama win, or especially an Obama loss, will be the death knell of the Democratic Party. Time for a new, more moderate party that repudiates the corrupt machinations of today’s politicians, if such a thing is even possible anymore.

That and a lot more ammo.

You would think a close election would make riots less likely than more likely. If a black man can almost win the election, then doesn’t that prove that racism is not a major factor any more, or at least that any white racism is offset by racism among minorities?

However, the reason that a close election will probably be more of a problem is that Democrats will be screaming high and low that there was election fraud. This, in spite of a strong recent history of most election fraud being perpetrated by organizations aligned with the Democrats. That could help to give rioters the excuse they are looking for.
