Inside the OODA Loop

Again. McCain cites “old Navy pilot” instincts in campaign suspension. It was “all hands on deck.” UK Telegraph:

Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, Mr McCain warned that “time is short and doing nothing is not an option”.

Mr McCain, who is flying to Washington later today, added: “I cannot carry on a campaign as though this dangerous situation had not occurred or as though a solution were at hand, which it clearly is not.”

“Senator Obama is doing the same. America should be proud of the bipartisanship we are seeing.”

Mr McCain has called for the first face-to-face presidential debate of the campaign, due to take place in Mississippi, to be postponed.

Addressing the conference by satellite link-up, Mr Obama agreed it was a time for cross-party unity but he contradicted Mr McCain’s call for a suspension of the debate.

“The times are too serious to put our campaigns on hold,” he said.

Those must be his “old community organizer” instincts kicking in … when in doubt, expect someone else to solve your problems … as McCain gets inside his OODA loop, confounding and confusing. Again. Polls say Americans want the debate. Well, yeah. Who doesn’t want to watch that show? That’s like saying those polls that found Americans don’t like war mean they want to be losers. If McCain decides by tomorrow night he wants to show, he loses nothing. Presidents, like fighter pilots, need to be flexible and need to able to manuever. They also need to be able to figure out where trouble is and be willing to act boldly to address.

“The times are too serious to put our campaigns on hold,” he said.

In other words, “my campaign is too serious to stop talking about it”.

The Navy (or maybe it is “Seafarers” command is “All Hands on deck.”

And he proved again what I believe to be the point of the OODA loop notion.

Get inside his loop, he dies. You live a little longer.

I listened to Obama’s press conference from Wednesday. What a whiner! He doesn’t sound like much of a leader, either. He’s willing to be helpful, will help in whatever way is needed, can fly in his big plane to Washington as soon as they ask him for help, etc.

Dude. You’re *this* close to being the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Act like it. Take charge. Stop making yourself sound like a concierge at a fancy hotel - “I’m here to help, sir, whatever you need, just let me know, I’m available at a moment’s notice, just dial zero and ask for Barack.”
