Scary

They’re having a hard time giving these masks away. But early gagshop exit polling is indicative an Obama win. Boston Herald:
The scary truth is two of them will haunt the White House for the next four years, but voters apparently regard presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, and their respective running mates Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, too dull to emulate for even a one-night Halloween party.
If only Batman and the Joker were a ticket. They’d clean up on Election Day.
The billionaire vigilante and his super sicko archenemy are running away with the popular vote at local costumers, while latex masks of McCain and Obama grin and bear it.
“There’s definitely people coming in for them, but they’re being overshadowed by Batman. We’re already out of (those) rentals,” said Caelte Mead-Ward of Boston Costume in Cambridge.
Dan Marcoux, owner of Hot Costumes in Webster, is enjoying a terrific season, but hasn’t had a single request for satire magnets Palin and Biden.
“Fads come and go,” Marcoux said, “but Star Wars is a staple in our store.”
Christine Arvanigian, president of the Halloween Outlet in Worcester, said her female customers want to exude sex kitten, not Palin’s moose-slaying “maverick” mother of five.
“I don’t know how one becomes ‘mavericky,’ ” Arvanigian said, laughing.
To imitate the Alaskan governor, costume shops can send you home with at least a wig and glasses. Slip into a gam-flattering suit or Bruins jersey and wink a lot. If you own a pit bull that will tolerate lipstick, all the better.
Biden’s another story, but Arvanigian sounded game for a challenge. “We could send some people out for Botox,” she suggested.
Obama masks at Spirit Halloween stores are outselling McCain’s likeness two-to-one, and as far as predicting our next commander-in-chief, this may be where the rubber meets the road. In the past three elections, the chain’s sales of presidential candidate masks were dead on for Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
It’s kind of odd. You’d think the old geezer would have more “Tales from the Crypt” appeal. About the Obama sales, all I have to say is I’m still not convinced a lot of people walking around with Obama masks on in October are going to vote for him next month.
Meanwhile, which moron at China’s mask factories didn’t get all over the Palin thing ASAP? Maybe the container ship is still enroute.
