Obamian Insights
Hey, when he’s right, he’s right. via UK Telegraph:
“Don’t underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Don’t underestimate our ability to screw it up.”
He’s talking about the election, and he’s absolutely right. But he could as well be talking about the Dems’ efforts to surrender in Iraq which, Allah be praised, they screwed up. He could as well be talking about just about anything the Dems lay hands on.
Here he is re the election again:
“We are 19 days away from changing this country. Nineteen days away. But for those who are getting a little cocky, I’ve got two words for you: New Hampshire,” said Mr Obama.
“I learned right here, with the help of my great friend and supporter Hillary Clinton, that you cannot let up, you can’t pay too much attention to polls. We’ve got to keep making our case for change. We’ve got to keep fighting for every single vote. We’ve got to keep running through the finish line.”
It was a kind lesson the old eye-gouger lovingly administered on him. Remember when? It was a more innocent, eye-gouging time. OK, all the cautioning about the dangers of hubris out of the way, Obama dives headfirst into the hubris.
“I promise you. We won’t just win New Hampshire. We will win this election and, you and I together, we’re going to change the country and change the world.”
One of my big questions for the Hope/Change crowd is, hope to change into what? It’s not socialism, we’ve been assured of that. But even amid economic turmoil, the United States remains one of the richest, safest societies in the world, where people are still free to speak their minds, where people flock from around the world for the opportunities it provides. You can have the heavily taxed, muzzled and socialized existence of Europe if you like. Or the thugocracy of Russia. Or the repressive kleptommunism of China, where the vast majority of the people remain peasants. Then there’s the rampant medievalism and tribalism of much of Africa and the Middle East.
George Bush has fought for eight years to change the world into a place that is safe for the abovementioned freedoms and opportunities, against people who would deny those. At last check, Obama wanted to stop doing that. So change into what, and how?

Socialism, plain and simple. Obama may not really believe in it, but he’s going to be surrounded by a whole lot of people who do. And they’re going to have his imprimatur.

@ “So change into what, and how?”
I’m sure there are clues aplenty in films by Oliver Stone and Michael Moore. Also, you might have a few more alarming insights here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/oct/18/iraq-britainand911
where the horrors of 9/11 are portrayed as, I kid you not, “unpleasant things that are going on”!

Your comment system keeps telling me my comments seem spammy. What the Hell is that supposed to mean?

I dunno, I just work here. I just noticed the spam filter snagged regulars, The Big Henry and Heinrichs. Bit of a sensitive artiste type, does a great job weeding out the anti-aging remedies, etc., but seems a little cranky at present. What the heck did you people do to PO the spam filter?
