Carson Kressley thinks Sarah Palin got ripped off. Michelle Obama’s a better dresser. Boston Herald’s Inside Track:
Style guru Carson Kressley said that if VP wannabe Sarah Palin really spent $150,000 on clothes she got ripped off.
“She didn’t spend it all on scrunchies, did she???” asked the “How to Look Good Naked” and “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” fashionisto.
“I can’t believe Sarah Palin spent that much on her clothes . . . she looks very generic to me.”
Kressley, who was at the New York & Company store at the Natick Collection for a fashion event yesterday, gave style props to first lady-in-waiting Michelle Obama.
“If I were Secretary of Style I would have to pick Michelle Obama as my winner,” Kressley said. “I think she brings back that kind of Jackie Onassis flair. I think Democrats are always better dressers.”
The “Queer Eye” guy said picking a perfect style isn’t hard – if you have confidence.
“When people see you walking down the street it shouldn’t look like you rolled around inside a particular store. You should wear the clothes, they should not wear you.”
Kressley described his own personal style as “psychotic” and “schizophrenic” but said that’s what he loves about the fashion biz.
“You can’t really change where you live, or where you’re from, or your accent,” Carson told the Track. “But the great thing about clothing is you can be a different person every day.”
Well, call me straight, but I think Palin’s been looking pretty good from Day One, and owns the confidence thing. The Obamas may have her on trying to be a different person every day, though. Lucky for Michelle most of the national press shares Carson’s fashion sense or she’d get big points off for thinking shoes are worn in the mouth. Dems are always better dressers? Did you miss the school bus yellow pants suit, Carson?
Anyway, Palin’s completely unnecessary $150,000 makeover notwithstanding, when it comes to character, experience, track record, policy and basic common sense, it’s pretty clear which side chose substance over style this year, and which side offered up just another pretty face … more lipstick on its porcine policies.

Sarah has to dress her part: as veep candidate, not the consort of a candidate. By that same measure, Todd Palin probably dresses better than Barack Obama… which isn’t exactly shocking. The range of dress options for Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain, Todd Palin and What’s-Her-Name Biden is a lot larger than their spouses. And it is only fair, they’re not running for elections, they’re merely the garnish at this point.
