Dress Like Sarah Palin For Less!

Finally, after all the bashing, the smears, the innuendo flying in both directions, the importuning and the promises, the descriptions and distortions of incomprehensible policy, here’s some election news you can use. Boston Herald:

Bay State hockey moms are offering advice for women who’d like to dress with the panache of Sarah Palin for less than $150,000: Shop discount outlets, use coupons and accessorize.

“I don’t buy it unless it’s on sale or I have a coupon,” said hockey mom of two Cathy Walsh, 44, of Wilmington.

Last week, campaign finance filings revealed the Republican National Committee outfitted the vice presidential candidate at stores including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. But with two boys to dress, and a depressed economy, Walsh said she wouldn’t dream of forking over $2,000 for a suit.

“That’s not what the average hockey mom spends,” said Walsh, who said her business casual outfits cost $75.

She said she shops for herself on average three times a year, hitting up the sales rack at discount stores such as Kohl’s and T.J. Maxx.

“I’m a coupon queen,” said Walsh, who works at Sentinel Financial Group in Reading. “I don’t go anywhere unless I have a coupon.”

That’s good advice, said Laura C. McDowell, spokeswoman for T.J. Maxx/Marshalls.

“Smart women, smart shoppers never pay retail,” said McDowell. “With stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, you don’t have to.”

I’m pretty sure the candidate already knows that. It’s the RNC that doesn’t.

The appealing styles Palin sports - such as bell sleeves or funnel-neck collars - can be found, at affordable prices, at those discount chains, McDowell said.

She also suggests pairing a scarf, leather gloves or a belt with a simple wool suit.

Lynda Farrell, 42, also of Wilmington, a hairdresser and hockey mom of three, said she shops for herself “maybe once a year.”

“I don’t go to the mall. I spend hardly anything and I wear things year after year,” Farrell said.

She said she keeps her outfits sleek and simple by wearing a lot of black.

Simple could have worked fine for the naturally stylish Palin, too, said the hockey moms.

“If I were her,” said Walsh, “I would feel little bit insulted that they had to spend that much to make me look presentable.”

No kidding. I thought she looked fine the way she was.

Malkin: fashionable fun with a Sarah mannequin. Nice. Hey, what’s with all the lefty lynch-lust?

I think it’s interesting that Sarah Palin’s outfit looks better in every one of those comparison shots.

It’s probably a girl thing, but there is no comparison between the left and right images. Either it’s drop-dead gorgeous or it’s not.

    If the shoe fits.
