Beantown Traditions

Alive and well as convicted tax cheat, lately spotted stuffing cash into her bra, vows to fight for her seat. She has to … that, kickbacks and campaign donations are her only source of income and let’s face it, the girl’s in her 50s and not exactly accustomed to work. Anyway, Massachusetts governemtn has long been a forgiving refuge for criminals, both convicted and unidicted. Sad that they would turn on one of their own kind like this, demanding a resignation, but Government Exhibit D, which pictured her giving the double D’s a cash assist, crossed the bounds of taste and decorum. If you’re not from around here, you may not recognize the harried, reporter-dogged face above. Maybe this view below looks more familiar. Boston Herald:

Embattled state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson called the Senate’s request for her to resign today “unreasonable,” saying she won’t leave her district without representation.
Wilkerson released the following statement: State Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, who is running a write-in sticker campaign, maintains that she is enormously respectful of the decisions and recommendations made by the Senate body today.
“There are many moving parts to this situation and I’m extremely focused on processing all of the conditions at hand,” said Wilkerson.
I’m sure she means “at hand-out.”
The Boston Democrat stated that the Senate’s request for her to resign today is unreasonable.
“Surely the members of the state Senate could not have believed that such a monumental decision would be made within a few hours,” said Wilkerson. “A decision like this could be comforting to some but could prove disastrous to others.”
“This district is more dependent on government working for it than any other. Constituent calls continue unabated even through this week. As a case in point, a call came in this week from a family that lost a child to violence that is seeking help raising money for that child’s funeral,” said Wilkerson.
Raising money is one of her chief interests. Re-elect her for the kids, as Howie would say, and probably will. That statement came out late yesterday and his column was already put to bed.
“A decision to leave this district without representation, even for 60 days, is one that cannot and should not be made in a matter of hours,” said Wilkerson.
“Rest assured I am committed to do what is in the best interest of the residents of this district.”
Campaign workers tonight were seen carrying in supplies and red roses into her Roxbury campaign office.
OK, speaking of Howie:
So it’s Halloween, and Dianne Wilkerson is playing “Trick or Treat” on everyone in Massachusetts politics. You take a guy like Arthur Winn, the ancient, filthy-rich developer who got a nice subpoena from the G-men this week. He and his lovely 30-something bride are planning a gala Halloween party this evening.
My advice: Don’t go to the Winns’ party wearing an FBI-agent costume. Lose the wingtips.
This is just too good. As someone noted yesterday, Dianne is a woman who never left home without the race card. Now that her race card’s maxed out, all she’s left with is the rat card.
She’s going to roll.
Mayor Mumbles Menino, of course, knows nothing.
“I remember her callin’ me yeah,” he was telling reporters, “saying - and complainin’ and say that uh, you know the community don’t get any - her community didn’t get any liquor licenses. I says, everybody ’plies for ’em, that’s how you get ’em.”
Is that really how you get a liquor license in the city, Mayor? You just have to apply - excuse me, “ ‘ply” for one? The ironic thing about all these extra liquor licenses is that even if Dianne can’t personally serve up anyone on a platter, the feds now can start asking questions of all the rich guys who’ve been ’plying for them.
It was funny yesterday to watch all of Sen. Wilkerson’s colleagues in the Senate expressing their “shock” over her behavior. This is a woman who’s only being defended by the usual suspects - and I do mean suspects. She has a rap sheet as long as her arm.
Yet Sen. Brian “Multiple Choice” Joyce, the ethical pygmy from Milton, says the solons “are disgusted.”
Sen. Mike Morrissey of Quincy, who wants her expelled, told reporters no one had “any idea what Dianne Wilkerson was about.”
She sent them a letter, apparently, saying she’d do whatever they asked her to do. So they asked her to resign and by not doing so she told them where to stick their resolution, and it wasn’t in her bra. They’re shocked all over again, especially Terry Murray, the Senate president and chief enabler, who said her dear friend Dianne would surely resign “if she values the integrity of the Senate.”
The integrity of the Senate? That’s a gag, right, Madame President?
“Do I look angry?” Sen. Murray said. “Yes I am.”
Hey Terry, do I look like I’m laughing? Yes I do, because I am.
OK, they’re finally embarrassed. Here’s the Herald on Dianne’s pals funneling cash to her pre-primary … because it was so important for Roxbury, the South End and Jamaica Plain have the representation of a convicted tax-and-spend tax cheat.
Many of the same senators who voted to push Sen. Dianne Wilkerson out the State House door yesterday were ponying up campaign cash to her just weeks ago as the Roxbury Democrat struggled to save her fading re-election bid.
Ten senators donated a combined $1,050 to Wilkerson in the days before the senator lost the Democratic primary to Sonia Chang-Diaz while Sen. Joan Menard (D-Fall River) gave $100 just three weeks ago, records show.
Even before this week’s bribery scandal, Wilkerson was on the ropes politically because of campaign missteps and her long history of legal and financial woes. Yet many pols continued to back her, including Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Gov. Deval Patrick, both of whom recorded automated calls supporting Wilkerson that were blasted out to voters before the September primary.

That’s exactly right - the problem is she’s only works for herself instead of her constituents.
You know….you get the government you deserve. I guess right now Roxbury and JP deserve a felon. They should never, ever wonder why nothing gets any better there.
Well….the restaurants on Centre St. in JP are better now. So that’s something….

“A decision like this could be comforting to some but could prove disastrous to others.”
That could be taken as a warning shot. A “back off, or I’ll make a deal with the DA and rat out all y’all with what you know I know.”
