Gas Tax
You’ve probably seen by now that Obama wants to bankrupt the coal industry by taxing, charging fees, cap and trade auctions, whatever you want to call screwing the people who burn coal. Which in this country is just about everyone who flicks a lightswitch. Your energy cash will be sacrificed on the altar of global warming. Newsbusters with the chatter the SF Chron didn’t see fit to print:
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
OK. That will have to apply to all greenhouse gas producers, if it’s going to be fair. Apparently cows produce methane like nobody’s business. 100 percent cap and trade on all hamburgers and prime rib. Cars, lots of GHG. 100 percent. Bam. Pay up. Uh, let’s see. Your lawn mower. Chainsaw. Like shooting? What do you think that crap is coming out the end of the barrel? Burn any brush lately? How about breathing? You do much of that? Cap and trade, mofo. Talking? Taxed. Special dispensation for climate-change-approved chatter means you have to STFU, they don’t. It’s an STFU tax.

Jules, it didn’t stop there.
Obama (D-ACORN) also was recorded say that under his (and Al Gores) energy plan, electricity prices will “skyrocket”

We deserve that which we vote for.
If we as a nation can’t keep our head and ass wired together, then we end up as a dysfunctional people! Screw everyone else, I’m more concerned about the US than any of those who don’t like us!

MikeH - and you are wise to do so because they don´t mean what they say. The German government for example can go on and on about global warming and the Kyoto protocol, but they will let no harm come to their car industry. It´s a different legal system. Unlike the US, in Europe and elsewhere green pressure groups can´t just sue an industry into compliance with a treaty because that treaty is not the law of the land. It´s a huge difference: the US government can´t just make international committments it never intends to keep. At least that is how I understand it.
