Pre-POTUS

There’s a lot to like about our young, charismatic, easy-going, wildly popular president-elect. More press conferences like yesterday’s, please, in which, a couple months in advance to taking office, he began establishing the nation’s economic policy but dodged any responsibility for foreign policy, delved deeply into traditional Oval Office canine policy … charmingly and disarmingly if surprisingly refering to himself as a “mutt,” almost a Lyndon Johnson scar kind of moment … and in an excess of clever over-thinking himself, insulted a dignified old woman. Meanwhile, he has already achieved pre-sainthood of the sort that one prominent presidential historian notes is usually reserved for the dead ones. Ouch, that’s awkward. Important roundup on the Pre-Presidency of the United of America follows:
(segue with ”Hail to the Pre-ief”)
Boston Herald: Iconography precedes presidency.
Kearns Goodwin described the Obama craze as unprecedented, saying no president appears to have inspired the kind of instant iconography that Obama has - not even the Kennedy brothers. Many hung JFK photos in their homes after his assassination, not after his election, she said.
“I think he is fantastic,” said Charlotte Lowe, 73, as she bought six Obama T-shirts yesterday from a pushcart in Roxbury’s Dudley Square.
Lowe said she plans to hang an Obama photo in her home next to a framed picture of the late John F. Kennedy.
Deborah Foderingham, 47, of Cambridge, who was shopping with Lowe, bought four Obama T-shirts and said her mother plans to hang an Obama photo alongside a framed photo of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
“Obama is like another Bobby Kennedy,” she said.
Let’s hope not. We don’t need that. OK, on to serious pre-presidential issues:
Boston Herald: Pre-President Obama demands fa$$$t action.
CNN: Obama calls Nancy to apologize for behaving like a Kos blogger. Sounds like he’s already learning on the job.
AP: “Mutt” remark, a great leap forward in racial consciousness. Sure, except that racial self-mockery is usually just the smiling side of the race card.
Malkin: And so it begins … or continues. Related, not so different, more post-racial healing.
Hot Air’s got your Pre-POTUS vid. Also, re foreign policy and AQI’s surrender demands, Hot Air counsels the Pre-POTUS, do nothing … immediately!
Riehl: He’s actually more immature than many of us feared.
Redstate: Wisdom and judgment not exactly on parade when Fox is cut off.
Patterico: A “lipstick on a pig” moment.
In other pre-presidential agenda items, Reynolds re mandatory voluntarism. Sounds like 1000 pointed lights!
Theo Spark: Hamas ready to talk to Obama. Hey, one president at a time. And if I may be so bold as to offer the Obama administration asome counsel … let’s not surrender to everyone all at once.
