The Obamagon

Washington Independent on War-Lite top-heavy Center for a New American Strategy as a feeder pool for the Obama administration’s Pentagon. Roundup with an assist from Small Wars Journal, which links to this WSJ oped on the Obama admin’s expected shift of focus to Afghanistan.

WSJ oped scribbler makes it sound like that wasn’t going to happen anyway. Lucky Obama, George Bush won in Iraq. Obama doesn’t have to worry about Saddam or al-Qaeda there. Still has to worry about Iran, though, where the Tehran Times reports his new pen pals want change that matters, a “strategic revision” of U.S. policy. Back to Afghanistan, here’s one veteran Pentagon Afghanistan watcher who suggests fighting harder as a means for encouraging political reconciliation. Meanwhile, this Christian Science Monitor Obama/Iraq/Aghanistan roundup notes that between working out a deal with Iraq on terms for staying and leaving, and the desire of smarting al-Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents to make a U.S. exit look like a rout, Obama may not be as done with Iraq as he thinks he is.

Which brings us back to the Obamagon. CBS speculates Gates, respected on both sides of the aisle, could be asked to stay, but notes former Clinton Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig and GOP surrender enthusiast Chuck Hagel and others under consideration. Hagel would make a nice matched set with John Kerry as Secretary of State. You won’t have to move to France then. France would be fully capable of invading.

    From the WSJ:
“Aides said Mr. Obama is likely to deploy tens of thousands of additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan, where security conditions have worsened markedly in recent months and attacks by the Taliban and others have risen.”
Some one wants Boeing stock to do well by purchasing more C17.

    Cheers

But… but… the seas were going to recede and the planet was going to heal. Does this mean we’re still going to have war?
