The Obamapo

Watch and learn, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan … and Iran, North Korea, Syria, China, Russia, etal, if they’ll let you. This is how it’s done. It’s called an election, and it is followed by a cooperative, even friendly transfer of power. All smiles as Bush takes Obama into the Oval Office to teach him the secret handshake, show him the secret scrapbook, whatever they keep in the secret desk drawer in there. NYT

It is only after the free election and peaceful transfer that our presidents traditionally spring the diabolical plots. This is how we do it in civilized countries.

That’s the dire warning from U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., anyway. He thinks Obama’s plan for a civilian national security force is setting up a Gestapo-like security force to enforce his Marxist Hitlerite dictatorship. I don’t know what the heck we need another federal law enforcement agency or quasi-military organization for. Could happen, I guess. Hey, George Bush tap danced all over the Constitution and hauled librarians, Cindy Sheehan etal off to the Guantanamo. Or he didn’t, but they said he did, and that’s got to count for something.

I dunno. There are a lot of bad and stupid things that could well happen in the next four years, I was thinking, but the Obamapo isn’t one of them.

That’s when I remembered Ruby Ridge, Waco, Elian Gonzalez. Maybe Broun’s not as crazy as he sounds. I also remembered that old guy with a “Korean War Vet” hat outside the local garage when I said “nice day,” and he started right in telling me out of the blue about that Obama constitution-redistribution thing last month, and how if he gets elected it’ll be time to get out the rifles. Could happen. Anything’s possible. But here’s my advice to old guys … the next utter stranger you propose armed insurrection to may be an FBI agent. I bought my house a couple of miles up the road from one, after all. Anyway, I don’t think we’re quite there yet. I’m with Surls on that issue:

It’s a little early to start seeing feds under the bed. Any more than usual, that is. But it would be somewhat ironic, to say the least, if after all the yapping over the last seven years about the Cheneyite police state Obama ends up being the one to install one. Hope not.

In other business, it’s pretty bad when a guy gets elected by 52 percent of the electorate and everyone’s walking around with his face on their t-shirts, and 83 percent say things are going badly. Actually, the headline CNN slapped on the story says they think the country is headed in the wrong direction. Not seeing a link to the actual poll, which is too bad. I’d like to know exactly why the long faces now that the Messiah is risen. 75 percent think Obama will be a good president, but six in 10 don’t know what his economic plans are. Must have been blinded by the Messianic glow being emitted by their TV screens.

76 percent think Bush stinks … that’s lower than Nixon, CNN observes. CNN neglects to note that the Democratic-controlled Congress, which gained seats, is also lower than Nixon.

I suspect President Obama will shortly find out that trying to establish a “civilian security force”, or requiring community service from students, is a bit too much like herding cats. I’m more afraid of what the Democrats are going to do to my taxes.

Mohammed at Iraq the Model just wrote about this, from his Iraqi perspective.

So… what happened to all of those people predicting that Bush would refuse to hand over power after his term was over? I’ve promised an awful lot of those loons that I would meet them on the steps of the White House on January 21st if Bush refused to leave. Looks like I’ll be able to save my gas money after all.

Bush has had 94 months of hellish responsibility. During all that time ignorant, stupid, and malevolent fools were pouring s**t all over him. I think he’ll go back to Crawford with a smile on his lips and a song in his heart. Now it’s somebody else’s responsibility. And for 86 months he has prevented another major terrorist attack on our soil. Let’s hope Wonder Boy can do as well.
