Books = Gifts
I did a bad bad thing. I got carried away, forgot myself, ordered two books from Amazon. D’oh! What was I thinking? I entirely forgot what the wife said. It’s Black Friday: Support your local independent bookseller. Help get me out of the dog house. Go buy a book at an independent bookstore and go tell my wife about it.

Sorry, but when I can find the books I’m looking for in my local bookstores (and I have a choice of several), then I will support them over Amazon. I recall when the bookstores had tremendous inventories that didn’t get crowded out by huge political and neo-spiritual sections, coffee shops, and a giant wall of magazines that you can buy in any Wal-Mart.

Most of the stuff I’m interested in has been out of print for years, so I have to poke around in used bookshops. If it’s something currently in print, then, good capitalist that I am, I’m going with the lowest price, regardless of source.
And, no, I wasn’t asked for my Christmas recommendations, but if you want some light, fun reading over the holidays, try anything in the Dortmunder series by Donald Westlake.
