Limits Of Tolerance Transgressed
No, it’s not Proposition 8. It’s those Dem darlings, the murderous Castro regime. Babalu, with dissident Yoani Sanchez on the bust-up of a dissident blogfest in Cuba:
I swear I haven’t driven through a red light, haven’t bought cheese on the black market for at least two months, haven’t left any store without paying. I don’t particularly recall breaking laws these days, not even having passed myself off as a foreigner to use the internet in some hotel.
Not withstanding, Reinaldo and I have been summoned to appear at the police station on 21 and C in Vedado tomorrow morning. I ask myself whether I should take my toothbrush or whether it is only a terse reprimand I will receive.
I share the official document I received today from a sweaty official who climbed fourteen floors of stairs- since I haven’t had an elevator in a month …
We want to advise you that you have transgressed the limits of tolerance in your closeness and contact with elements of the counterrevolution. This disqualifies you totally to conduct dialogue with Cuban authorities.
The activity scheduled for the next few days cannot take place.
We, for our part, will take all measures and will lodge the pertinent charges and take the necessary actions. This event- in these moments which the nation is living, recuperating from two hurricanes- will not be permitted.
More from Malkin, who has the recent history.
One bit of Dem Cong/Obamist Caribbean foreign policy housecleaning that hasn’t gotten much attention. No, it isn’t that awkward thing about Guantanamo, and whether they’ll close it. It’s the Cuban embargo, and whether they’ll lift it. Anyone care to bet how long this grave injustice to a socialist worker’s paradise yearning to rake in capitalist $$$ will endure in the Kumbayah era?
Latest poll gives embargo-lifting an edge among Miami Cuban-Americans.
Today’s SF Chron analysis Obama’s Latin policy issues is somewhat oblique on the subject, but expects a continuation of the embargo:
“There will be an increased emphasis on multilateralism and the possibility of diplomatic overtures toward regimes historically antagonistic toward Washington,” said Rob Munks, the Americas editor for Jane’s Information Group. But “many changes in policy toward Latin America are likely to be in presentation rather than substance.”
I dunno. Ditching the embargo has been a major agenda item for a lot of Dems. But here’s Obama:
“My policy toward the Americas will be guided by the simple principle that what’s good for the people of the Americas is good for the United States,” Obama said in a speech in Miami in May. “That means measuring success not just through agreements among governments, but also through the hopes of the child in the favelas (slums) of Rio, the security for the policemen in Mexico City, and the answered cries of political prisoners heard from jails in Havana.”
Answer them with what? The Castro regime seems to be making plans to give them more company.
The president-elect is expected to open lines of communication with Chavez and loosen restrictions on Cuba. In an interview with the Miami Herald in 2007, Obama said Washington should give Cuban Americans unrestricted rights to visit relatives on the island and send them remittances. In a newspaper article, Fidel Castro praised the president-elect’s intelligence and noted Cuba’s willingness to talk with the new administration.
“An early adjustment of policies toward Cuba may appeal to Obama, as he will see it as a highly visible way of fulfilling his campaign promise of delivering change,” said analyst Munks.
…
Obama is also likely to maintain the major thrust of U.S. policy, including strong backing for Mexico and Colombia, continuation of the economic blockade of Cuba and a cautious approach toward Castro, Chavez and Bolivian President Evo Morales.

Oh what a relief, he lied to us about that too. Damn, I was worried there for a minute.
