67 years ago today. More art:

A few months later there was some payback.

A lot more things happened.

And then it was over.

To those who fought the Japanese in WWII, and to the dead of Pearl Harbor:
*Salute*

LA Times Headline, December 8, 1941, hanging in my study and used as screensaver on my cell phone:
“JAPS OPEN WAR ON U.S. WITH BOMBING OF HAWAII”
Thank you, Jules, for the photo gallery. God Bless Them All. The last photo is, I believe, the Nagasaki Bomb dropped from a B-29 named Bock’s Car, piloted by Major Charles Sweeney. He’d switched planes with another pilot and the mission was intended for Kokura. Socked-in cloud cover sent them to the alternate target.
My father was on Tinian, West Field, 20th Air Force, 58th Bomb Wing, 462nd Bomb Group–The Hellbirds. Their Group Motto, on the nose of every plane with their insignia was: WITH MALICE TOWARD SOME.
Amen, Pop. Works for me.

Two of my five uncles fought in the Pacific, and a third fought in Italy with my dad. They are all gone now, but not forgotten. Thanks, Dad, and all my uncles.

Oh, yes, and not to slight the two uncles who didn’t fight: one was too young to go, and one was a farmer, so they did their part too, in their own way.

In WW1, Japan was an ally.
Funny aint it? How in this current time, some folk just can’t wrap their heads around the concept that “ally” is a transitory and conditional tag that is earned, and renewed conflict to conflict.
