Shoe Trial

Abu Shoe will get one. NYT. Beats what he would have gotten under Saddam, though the beating should serve as a reminder. I’ve been a little distracted, not following shoe developments closely. I hope the Iraqi government is developing a footwear security policy for press conferences. OK, here we go:

Some Iraqi journalists said on Tuesday that they feared the episode would provide justification for limits being placed on local reporters working in a nation without a tradition of press freedoms.

“I feel certain that the Iraqi government will issue strong new resolutions to deal with Iraqi journalists,” said Abdul Wahid Tuama, an editor at Al Hyatt newspaper in Baghdad.

Please to leave shoes at door.

NYT notes, like the AP did the other night, that “Wingtips” al-Zaidi is a folk hero. Neglects to report here that a lot of Arabs think he is boorish lout who shamed his country, though even Bush-bashing stalwarts Michael Ware on CNN and NPR managed to find a lot of them.

Shoes Untiedi maintains he did it for the widows and orphans.

Mr. Zaidi rose from his seat and threw a shoe at the president’s head. He shouted: “This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!”

Mr. Bush ducked to avoid the shoe. Moments later, Mr. Zaidi threw his other shoe, shouting, “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq!” The shoe struck the wall behind Mr. Bush.

Maybe he should take his al-cowboy diplomacy boots and go hunt down Osama bin Laden, sharif of the posse that has done its damnedest to create the most Iraqi widows and orphans … and to kill as many of them as they can while they’re at it. Shoe down at the AQ Corral.

Gateway sizes up old Shoe bin Chucked. Dial-a-Protest, Sadr City branch, was working for him. One size fits all.

Update from the footwear department at Reuters: Al-Shoedi, in court, admits “aggression to a president” and is looking at up to 15 years of cooling his heels in the Iraqi hoosegow. Meanwhile, ibn Bro didn’t get Tased, but he sure took a beating. Iraqi police sneaker party? Yeah, well, live by the shoe …

Render unto Shoe-sar …

I came. I shoed. They conked me.

Chavez, shoe diplomacy fan. via AP: “The shoe toss of a people’s dignity …. What courage!”

via JPost, where they’d be happy to dodge Arab footwear for a change, “A Political Culture of Self-Righteous Fury.” It’s about how Arabs are their own worst enemy. I hate therefore I am. Put another way, the enemy of my enemy is my enemy, too.

Sock and awe, the online game. AFP reports 1.4 million people have managed to whack Bush.
