Mexican beauty queen caught in an SUV full of suspected gangbangers, guns, ammo and cash. Senorita Sinaloa 2008, aka Miss Hispanoamerica 2008, thought she was going shopping. Latin American Herald Tribune:
MEXICO CITY — Beauty queen Laura Elena Zuñiga Huizar was arrested along with seven men while carrying arms and thousands of dollars in cash in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, police said Tuesday.
The state’s police chief, Francisco Alejandro Solorio, told reporters that the eight suspects, who were traveling in two SUVs, were arrested Monday night at a checkpoint established by army troops and police in the Guadalajara suburb of Zapopan.
Police seized two AR-15 assault rifles, three pistols, nine ammunition clips, more than 600 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, 16 cell phones and about $18,000 in cash from the suspects.
The 23-year-old Zuñiga Huizar is a native of Cuiliacan, the capital of Sinaloa state, which is the birthplace of the likenamed drug cartel considered one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations.
Zuñiga Huizar was crowned Miss Sinaloa in July and also won the Miss Hispanoamericana contest held in Bolivia last month.
Jalisco police chief Solorio said the beauty queen told officers she and her companions planned to go on a shopping trip to Bolivia and Colombia.
I wouldn’t think she’s blonde enough … but maybe that works differently in Mexico. Meanwhile, here she is with her shopping posse and the goods … not smiling, not waving, not engaging the crowd.

Marjorie Wallace, Miss USA, won the Miss World crown in 1973, but judges at the competition weren’t the only ones impressed by her beauty. Wallace’s male admirers, including singer Tom Jones and soccer star George Best, kept her date book full of high-profile romances. However, matchmaking wasn’t quite what the Miss World pageant organizers had in mind.
