Best Individual Blog 2008 Finalist

Very flattering, and thanks are in order to those of you who kindly nominated this site. However …

(IMPORTANT NON-VOTE  RUNNING TALLY BELOW)

… since losing to a site several years ago (that got a major assist from the DU and various GLBT sites, which is fine, but) that did not in fact meet the contest criteria of “new blog,” having existed six months ahead of the cutoff; and being informed by the awards organizer that the rules violation didn’t seem worth upsetting the applecart over, though another contestant had been ousted earlier over some unknown party’s electronic interference; I decided popularity contests that ignore their own rules are not worth participating in. Particularly when there is no money involved. I encourage you not to vote for me, or anyone else. If anyone knows of any popularity contests that do follow their own rules, please don’t nominate me there either, unless there is a big money prize, in which case I’m in.

Meanwhile, I’d like to thank my friend Michael van der Galien of Poligazette for not voting for me, even if he did feel compelled to endorse me. That’s one popularity contest I’m glad to win. All non-voting endorsements will be graciously accepted. Non-voting denunciations, too. You’re welcome to include your endorsements, denunciations and pledges not to vote for this site in comments. Because those are non-votes that really matter.

UPDATE: The non-votes are starting to add up. My good pal Surber also refuses to vote for this site. Surber is sitting on a juried blog competition at John Hawkins’ Right Wing News, and shills for that contest at the link. “Crittenden has the right attitude,” Surber says. Five of my favorite words. I’m calling that an endorsement.

OK, another endorsement of this site just in from a somewhat prominent blogger who prefers not to be identified, but states that even though he likes this site, he intends to vote for me anyway ” … because you deserve it, due to the fact you cover the issues, really get your viewpoint across and you’re FUN to read!”

Come on, that’s not what I want to hear. Thanks, though. Nice of you to say so.

Hey, I just thought of something. I could start making up anonymous non-votes, and lose this thing on my own, underhandedly. Unethical? Sure. But if the abovementioned popularity contest doesn’t need to pay attention to its rules, then what the heck do I even need rules for?

OK, absentee non-votes are starting to come in. What do we do with the hanging non-votes? I’m counting them. I just heard about 133 missing non-votes. I rule that they should be counted. By my reckoning that gives me at least a 49 non-vote lead over my own non-votes.

This just in: “Lizard People” won’t vote for this site.

Here’s the latest news, via Crittendenated Press:

Crittenden spokesman Jules Crittenden said Crittenden could still lose to Crittenden, either during the count of absentee non-ballots or in the expected court case. Crittenden’s campaign has alleged regularities in the non-counting of some non-ballots in Crittenden strongholds.

“We’re faced with an artificial Crittenden lead,” he said.

Meanwhile, Crittenden began determining which of hundreds of yet-unopened absentee non- ballots should be counted. They eventually were all acccepted by Crittenden, who disregarded minor but not disqualifying errors, such as a signature on a non-ballot that doesn’t match the one on file with Crittenden.

The size of that pile is in dispute but is thought to be around 1,350. Crittenden’s campaign is accepting all of those non-ballots and wants to add another 650 to the stack.

Reports from some of the regional Crittenden sites early Tuesday suggested gridlock, with Crittenden not seeing eye to eye.

“Things are not going as smoothly as we hoped,” said Crittenden.

Yeah, well, I can only speak for myself in this matter, but I’m pretty confident that by the time this is over, more people will have not voted for me than have voted for any of the people that I hope will beat me in this competition. But you know what they say. It isn’t over until the fat lady shuts up.
