NK New Year

Kim Jong Il’s terror, extortion and subjugation apparatus sucks up to Obama. via Boston Herald:

SEOUL, South Korea - Totalitarian North Korea ushered in 2009 with harsh words for the South but none of the usual insults for the United States.

The lack of criticisms of the United States may indicate the dictatorship hopes to curry favor with President-elect Barack Obama.

“North Korea didn’t issue insults for the U.S. in this year’s editorial. That showed North Korea’s expectation for the Obama government,” said Korea watcher Paik Hak-soon. Obama has said he is willing to hold direct talks with the North.

Here’s the Juche 97 year in review, by the way, via DPRK News:

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) — The might of single-minded unity, the symbol of Juche Korea and the greatest national strength, was eloquently demonstrated again in Juche 97 (2008).

From the beginning of the year the Korean people launched into a daring all-out offensive on all fronts of socialist construction with indomitable spirit in response to the militant slogan of the Workers’ Party of Korea “Glorify This Year of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the DPRK as a Year of Historical Turn Which Will Go Down in the History of the Country”.

Fierce flames of technical updating and production upsurge flared up at major industrial establishments including the February 8 Vinalon Complex and the Namhung Youth Chemical Complex and a project of UHP electric arc furnace was completed at the Chollima Steel Complex. In the meantime, lots of monumental edifices including Ryesonggang Youth Power Station No.1 and the Chongdan County Gravity-fed Waterway have taken shape and modern production bases cropped up in all parts of the country, which will help improve the people’s standard of living.

Memo to DPRK News: “fierce flames” and “production upsurges” sound a little too much like something they warn you about as a potential side effect in imperialist aggressor pharmaceutical ads.

Pyongyang has been face-lifted and scenery of socialist fairyland has been unfolded in many places including the Unhung Co-op Farm, Thaechon County, North Phyongan Province. And specific fruits have been gathered in socialist cultural construction. To cite an example, a new representation was given to the orchestra and chorus “Snow Falls” to make it a hit listed as a national treasure.

I did not make up “socialist fairyland.” Or “face-lifted,” ”Unhung” or “specific fruits.”  Check the link. I’m starting to think whoever wrote this is a subversive genius. Sorry, don’t want to get anyone into trouble. Let me rephrase that …  ’m-Iay arting-stay to ink-thay oever-whay ote-wray is-thay s-iay a-ay ubversive-say enius-gay. I am interested in the new representation of “Snow Falls” that’s burning up the charts in Pyongyang with its fierce flames, though.

OK, enough fun. It’s too depressing even to mock. To think there are poor bastards over there who have to write this, maybe even congratulating each other because they came up with some good lines. Desperate to please, terrified of effing up. And they are the lucky ones.

The political events in September were a grand demonstration of the immutable faith and will of the Korean people to share destiny with the Workers’ Party of Korea and socialist motherland to the end, trusting their leader.

The Korean people will as ever remain rallied close around the headquarters of revolution in one idea and one will and adorn the history of the DPRK with victory and glory.

By the way, just because the K’s opted to forego bashing the U.S. in the New Year’s message as reported above, doesn’t mean anyone’s slacking on their U.S.-bashing obligations. There are 364 other days in the Juche year. U.S. War Hysteria Under Fire:

The U.S. bellicose forces have staged frantic war exercises targeted against the DPRK by mobilizing their allied forces at a time when the denuclearization was under way on the peninsula. This clearly indicates that they do not stand for the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue but seek to stem the trend of dialogue and peace and stifle the DPRK by force of arms.

Their reckless military hysteria this year proves once again that they are stepping up their preparations for a war behind the scene of dialogue and their wild ambition to invade and dominate the DPRK by force of arms remains unchanged. The U.S. loudmouthed “peace” and “stability,” however, are nothing but a smokescreen to cover up their scenario for invading the DPRK. Their plan to start a war of aggression against the DPRK remains unchanged.

Faulty thinking on their part. Why would we start a war when we can just wait for everybody to starve to death?
