Shoe-In
Anyone who’ll be in DC Monday may want to visit Lafayette Square for a demonstration of Iraqi-style free speech as Maine person of conscience/mental health advocate Jamilla El-Shafei leads a shoe-toss over the White House fence. via WBZ-TV:
Her goal is to get people to toss shoes at the White House fence, and she says she expects there to be some combat boots from war veterans among the shoes.
El-Shafei says she’s organizing the event in the spirit of Iraqi Journalist Mutadhar Al-Zaidi, who threw his shoes at Bush.
She doesn’t mince words. She says Bush ”acted like a reckless madman” and says ”people of conscience” regret the war in Iraq.
I hope the Secret Service understands that throwing large objects at national security facilities and personages is simply a traditional form of Iraqi political expression and doesn’t arrest her. I also hope no one attempts to hurl any alternate political views at El-Shafei … Iraqi combat vets with size 12 boots, for example … because someone might get hurt.
Meanwhile, AP White House correspondent Ben Feller can’t wait, kicks it off ahead of time with his own boot-chuck of a Bush legacy analysis.
