Bold Step Drastically Contemplated
Obama admin circulates a draft order to close Gitmo in a year. You can call that a pander if you want, or you could call it a major toe in the water. Key details via Yahoo News:
Closing the facility in Cuba “would further the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States and the interests of justice,” read the draft prepared for the new president’s signature.
While some of the detainees currently held at Guantanamo would be released, others would be transferred elsewhere and later put on trial under terms to be determined.
It was not known when Obama intended to issue the order.
That last one may be the most critical aspects of this important new way of doing things under the Obama administration, although the second point strongly suggests they haven’t entirely figured out what they are doing, while the first, of course, is a clear indication they don’t know what they are talking about.
In other important developments, the Obama admin is changing the drapes. CNN: Weekly Radio Address to undergo YouTube-ification. I don’t want to downplay the significance of this. While initially this could be very exciting for young people who have been engaged by Obama’s vibrancy, it is more than that. It could soon become another very important way for young people to ignore things they don’t give a damn about.

This week on “That’s My Obama!”:
Obama: Me and my big mouth. Now that I’m President I actually have to close Gitmo. So, what are we going to do with these people, anyway? Ideas, anyone?
Clinton: We could give them jobs driving taxis in New York. I doubt anybody would even notice the difference.
Obama: Ha ha, Hillary. Come on, people, what else have you got?
Biden: You know, just the other day I was strolling down main street after lunch at Katie’s restaurant, on my way to Home Depot to grab a new pipe wrench for the replumbing work I’m doing on our house, and suddenly thought to myself, “Joe, what are we gonna do with those fellas at Gitmo”, and then…
Obama: Joe, how did you get in here?
Biden: I, um, I followed Hillary in. Come on Big B, I’ve got some good ideas here, really! If you would just let.. me..
Holder: I say we just give them pardons and let them go.
Obama: Anything else? From anybody other than Eric?
Gates: Sir, we can’t just let them go. Every time we’ve done that in the past, a high percentage have ended up back in the field, fighting our soldiers. The remaining prisoners are the ones we didn’t dare release, the most hard core of them all.
Obama: Right, right. You know, I believe those long, difficult years of voting “present” prepared me for this very moment. We can keep my campaign promise to close Gitmo immediately, even before we have any idea what to do with them. We release a draft order to close Gitmo within a year, but we won’t actually execute the order, see? That way everybody is happy, besides the terrorists, of course. Any objections? No? Excellent.

Close the prison or close the base? If the former, no big deal, there’s a former Naval prison in Portsmouth that could be used. The new inmates could even earn a living cleaning it up. If the latter, Raul and Fidel just got new digs.
Close the prison? Fine. Never, never close the Base! A stick in the Castro’s eyes is a wonderful thing to behold.

This is just great — Murtha, that piece of human trash, just announced that they should close Gitmo and offered to house the terrorists in his district. I’m sure that those family members whose loved ones died on Flight 93 will be thrilled that the murderers responsible for their deaths are thriving just a few miles away thanks to Murtha. No shame.
