Meanwhile, In Worm Turnage News

Greenwald’s been in a state of excitment for some time over the mounting crimes of the Obama administration, but today, he’s thrilled to see that Kennedy, Leahy, Arlen Specter etc. … the left wing of the United States Senate’s left wing plus fellow travelers …

are turning on Obama’s DOJ over failure to practice the new openness, or more specifically, employing Bush tactics to shield Bush-era secrets.

It is a fascinating development. Greenwald’s right to pay it this much attention, though in his lust for vengeance upon American war criminals, he misses a key point: what does the Obama admin now know that it didn’t know before that has it lined up on the wrong side of the Bushitler Nuremberg trials? Or is it a legacy thing, there but for the grace of God will go my presidency. It might have to do with Obama’s need to go forward in the world with an intelligence structure that is not in disarray. Caught up in there somewhere may be the Oabam admin’s decision not to limit the CIA to the Army’s Boy Scout manual on interrogations. There could be at stake delicate relations with other states that, while in some respects unsavory, in the balance are better to have on side than off. It may be that, having put aside childish things, Obama has found the world a more complicated and harsher place than the rosy goggles of youthful inexperience and/or the blinders of electioneering allowed.

If you make it all the way through, you also get to see Greenwald and Sullivan having a tiff with phrases like “For my part, I have not changed my mind and never, pace Glenn, stated that…” which is fun,* but the bigger fun is guessing how long before people start talking about plots hatched in Chicago. Because the Obama admin apparently is encountering some of the realities of wartime presidency. Much as others, from Bush to FDR to Lincoln, have before. Plus, in this modern era, the free world leadership part. Outstanding question: Now that Obama has formally adopted it, if only in part, what the heck are we supposed to call the collective governmental actions or such constituent parts as remain in effect that were formerly known as the GWOT?

* The snooty Latin “pace Glenn” part is precious, but the idea of Sullivan having to defend himself from accusations from the far left of changing his mind is delightful.

You lost me at Greenwald. :)

He’s a very fickle boy, that Andrew. I think what we’ve got here–root-cause-wise–is a bad case of cabana envy.

  3. Sean Bannion Says:

Has Greenwald ever made an argument in good faith? Has he ever been anything other than intellectually dishonest?

    I mean, really.

  4. William Teach Says:

Has Greenwald ever made an argument that isn’t part a monsterously huge post, with tons of “Updates”?

It will be fun watching him and The Last True Conservative, aka Excitable Andy, spinning like tops to defend the Messiah.

    Heh,

Apparently, some folks on the left have suddenly realized that the emperor really isn’t wearing any clothes.

A poltroon is still a poltroon, in spite of his bloviations to the contrary.

  6. RebeccaH Says:

The question I keep asking people who should have known what was coming is this: “How do you like your Democratic president now?”

  7. Fatty Bolger Says:

That, and “How do you like your Democratic government now?”*

    * You may also be required to gently explain to some of them how the Republicans are, for all practical purposes, utterly powerless right now. Some people still don’t get that, and still think the nefarious ‘publicans are somehow pulling the strings. These people actually believe Obama and the media when they blame Republicans for “obstructionism” and “partisanship.” It would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad.

Greenwald’s is one of the best humor blogs out there. It’s very rare that I don’t end up chuckling at the insanity of it all.
