Friday The 13th

AP: “Major victory … muscled to the brink of final passage.” Sure. He let his own party’s Congress go wild with its own bill, and lost virtually every Republican by insulting them when he wasn’t ignoring them. I guess that’s a big victory if they say it is, not exactly Pyrrhic, I suppose, unless you’re concerned about the massive debt bump for a lot of pork and partisan agenda items. But it looks more like he just failed to lose … everything except the good will of Republicans he may eventually end up wishing he had. Maybe he figures he won’t.

I dunno. I think he’s just handed Pelosi and Reid what they tried but utterly failed to get from Bush. The presidency. Pretty sad when the guy who wants to be Lincoln and FDR can’t even quite pull off W.

Politico: “Emboldened yet chastened by pothole-pocked road … plunging ahead … New Deal-style plans.”

So when we get to the part about having a big ass war … not like these little Bush wars … so the people who actually make stuff get some of all this lucre instead of just having to pay for it? The mullah appeasement will eventually take care of that part, I guess.

Anyway, I’m just getting a real bad luck feel off this pretty penny. Meanwhile, here’s Rahm, who’s supposed to be a political genius, talking too much.

Washington should have learned something about Mr. Obama as well, with the shift from bipartisan overtures to outright mockery of his opposition

Not sure if by bi-partisan overtures he means “I won” or “Stop Taking Orders from Rush” or “yeah, right, I’ll get back to you on that.” I get the mockery part, though. That was when he made a mockery of facts by blaming everything on George Bush and said the GOP wanted no plan at all. Rahm’s right about the “lost control” part, too, though arguably he never had it.

Surber calls it scorching the earth. I can’t help but think he’ll just burn himself.

This is kind of fun. Hamsher at Firedoglake (OK, I get the “dog” part. Fire, lake is what?) can’t believe what Rahm just said abot eschewing the facade of bipartisanship for outright mockery of the opposition. She agrees bi-partisanship was always a joke but thinks it is important to keep bullshitting people. At least I think that’s what she’s trying to say.

In other tough luck Friday the 13th business, the communications instructor also blogging as Balloon-Juice is concerned that the people he’s sidled up to will do what they said they would … restore the so-called Fairness Doctrine. I believe within his lexicon of political discourse this would make them “assholes.” Meanwhile, ding dong also thinks some Republican should switch his vote to cover for absent Dems, which I guess makes sense as a matter of principle for a surrender enthusiast.

More fun with Andrew Sullivan, who thinks there should be a Fairness Doctrine to govern congressional votes. Well, he’s a Brit and they do things differently over there. This part’s pretty ironic though, given what Rahm just said, what Obama has been saying for the past couple of week, and what Congress is passing as we speak:

The GOP is borderline autistic in its understanding of the necessary to-and-fro of democratic government. Or rather: its ideological nature prevents it from engaging in the actual tasks of pragmatic government. Or from seriously thinking of the long-term national interest rather than the short-term partisan one.

Some Kossack, meanwhile, is off the deep end with his own personal Friday the 13th nightmare … what if we didn’t have Pelosi to ensure everything was good and larded up?

So how’s the vote going? Hot Air’s tracking it, I can’t bear to look.

The Other McCain with three reasons never to give a dime to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

G’Day incoming Instapundit, Riehlists, Other McCainites etal. Always so good to see you. Never mind your financial future, how about your right to tell them to F-bomb off!?!

    Jules,

I and some friends were discussing, last night, the possibility of starting a recall petition on Susan Collins. She’s our Senator and a deep embarrassment to us who supported her. I’ll be up front in saying that I voted for her only to keep the other candidate, a true jack-booted democrat from gaining her seat. Now, I wonder if it was even worth it.

“muscled to the brink of final package.”

Yeah, it really took some muscle to strongarm those three RINO’s in the Senate.

Anything to make Obama look tough, though. He sure isn’t going to accomplish it on his own.

“Well, he’s a Brit and they do things differently over there.” Not the way you think Andi thinks it works. He’s probably as ignorant of Parliamentary procedure as he is of “How Congress Works”. And his concept of ‘give and take’ is suspect.

    Cheers
