Those Who Don’t Study History
Risk looking like fools when they become part of it. Quick roundup on Obama and the Obamists, desperately seeking stimulus:
Riehl notes that Sullivan’s line about the GOP declaring war on Obama is gaining traction. Could become popular as an excuse for Obama’s failures. Which is pretty lame. Obama himself has been blaming Bush for his economic woes, and slamming the GOP for failing to agree to a controversial and unpopular Democratic social spending initiative labeled “economic stimulus.” He needs to study the Bush presidency harder, see how its done. Bush won his controversial and unpopular shooting war over the objections of a Democrat majority House and Senate. If Obama can’t win his economic one with control of both houses, and they need to blame the minority party …
Hot Air notes the hyperventilation and cruelly twists the Dems’ words against them: Dissent is not war. It’s America.
The Other McCain channels Philip Klein on the blame game. It’s not just the GOP … it’s an economy that is being painted as so bad, that by 2010 their efforts obviously will have fixed it, even if they didn’t.
In the news, Obama is promising a miracle of loaves and fishes. NYT:
“Once Congress passes this plan and I sign it into law,” Mr. Obama said, “a new wave of innovation, activity and construction will be unleashed all across America.”
I’m thinking a new wave of money-grabbing, but what do I know?
GOP pushes back on Obama’s bi-partisan reach-across ”do nothing” claim.
WPost: Despite pledges, package has some pork.
Malkin sees it more as a turkey wrapped in bacon.
McClatchy: Will the stimulus actually stimulate?
… short on incentives to get consumers spending again and long on social goals that won’t stimulate economic activity, according to a range of respected economists.
You know we don’t have all day to sit around debating this. There is tremendous pressure to act quickly. Pelosi has tickets to Rome!
Hot Air: Will Gregg’s gob-smacking withdrawal imperil the stimulation? There’s some head-counting underway in the Senate.
Credit where credit is due. Gateway congratulates Obama on the biggest single transfer of private wealth to public hands ever. Breaking the US debt record in just 30 days!
Surber reviews a sorry week in Obamaland.

Um… no it won’t. Because once the Congressional Mafia take their cut, there won’t be any money left for anything else.

Those who CAN remember the past are condemned to live among idiots repeating it.

Every time I read about a new “feature” in the stimulus bill, it becomes obvious that they’re going to F us over in so many ways with this thing. This is just the first round, too, no doubt they’ll be back for more.
