Stimulating Gaza
Hillary promises the $900 million Hamas Stimulus funds won’t go to Hamas. Reuters. I’m not sure how she plans on ensuring that. Anyone who might be inclined to act as a porkbu … sorry, culturally insensitive … falafelbuster got thrown off the rooftops of Gaza a long time ago. Any Palestinian Authority guy who shows up with millions of reconstruction bucks in his pocket will be relieved of that and go pitchpoling over the nearest parapet in no time. And you can’t give it to the UN. They’ll just use it to build more Hamas fighting positions/IDF war-crimes sites.
Clinton was adamant that none of that money would go to the militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza and which Washington labels a terrorist organization.
“We have worked with the Palestinian Authority to install safeguards that will ensure our funding is only used where and for whom it is intended and does not end up in the wrong hands,” she said.
They must be planning to spend it on tanks. That’s the only way I can think of that any PA guy loaded with cash gets anywhere near Gaza without ending up on the wrong side of the ramparts.
Anyway, this is a fascinating Middle East peace initiative, in the guise of reconstruction, humanitarian aid, all that. The Obama admin hopes to stimulate peace, by using $900 million of your bucks to make Hamas agree to behave and play nice with the PA and Israel. Given the unlikelihood of that … the behavior, that is, regardless of what they agree to … I believe this is actually intended as an important investment towards making Arabs and Persian mullahs like us better. Too bad it won’t work. All of this is being discussed in Sharm al-Sheikh, at a conference neither Israel nor Hamas were invited to attend. Clinton and George Mitchell knew it would be impolite to show up empty handed, so they brought this token of your esteem.
You know, I hope they aren’t in a big rush to cut the check. If they would just wait a few weeks, they could shovel the dough to Bibi Netanyahu and give him the greenlight to use it on pest control. Not much point in rebuilding Gaza while it remains a rat’s nest, after all.
Here’s a clue. This is what trying to buy people’s favor gets you. Gateway: Obama’s popularity plummets 22 percent in 40 days.
Israel Matzav, meanwhile, reads the fine print for an Israel-bashing update.
