Wicked, Childish Or Dim?

Here’s a Brit who posits “Lady Macbeth” was behind the Obamas’ slighting of America’s staunchest ally. UK Telegraph again. That’s higher praise than Michelle deserves. His evidence goes back to her Princeton days, but he hit the mark before he got to that part: They did it because they could. In the most juvenile way possible, they wanted to show they’re in charge, things are different, they have other priorities, and besides, Britain needs to be punished for its Bush enablance. Either that or neither of them are really that bright.

Another thought. Sadder. Maybe just ill-bred.*

OK, a quick run through of foreign policy gaffes: snubbing Britain. Ineptly haggling with Russia. Being snubbed by Iran. Giving al Qaeda and Iran a target date to strategize around in Iraq, and treating our best generals dismissively in the process. The whole closing Guantanamo debacle. I know I missing something. We could spend all night toting up and categorizing missteps. Economic. Political. Reynolds is scratching his head just over the appintments. He’s lost count. Same question applies in each case. Wicked, childish or dim?

Powerline notes that Brown, while getting the rotten-fish guest treatment, actually gave Obama a thoughtful, deeply meaningful gift.

Treacher records the moment.

Welcome Powerline, Freepers, Toldjah, American Digest, etal, always good to see you. Come on in. In other Obama admin business, marvel at how eagerly Gaia has responded to his warmal tax policy.

* Memo to any semi-literate lurking racemongers: That’s a reference to manners, not genetics.

    Wicked, childish or dim?

    Yes.

[...] UPDATE 2: And a reader at Power Line added this: Reader Ken Gage observes: “Going back to the topic of is he just that stupid or is he doing it on purpose, consider the fact that Gordon Brown is blind in one eye and has some visual deterioration in the other (how much is unclear). A calculated insult could not have been more on-target.” Jules Crittenden asks whether Obama is “wicked, childish or dim.” [...]

Obama has made mention of his grandfather’s antipathy to Britain, stemming from his experiences in colonial Kenya.

I had wondered if Obama was being rude to the British PM because of the Kenyan connection. Suspicion confirmed, so I have to lean toward wicked, although there is plenty of room for childish and dim, too.

    Fourth option: Narcissistic.

As in Narcissistic Personality Disorder, with which his actions are consistent. One common “tell” with NPD is bad gift-giving. Narcissists tend to give tacky, inappropriate gifts because they lack the ability to see other people’s needs or tastes as real or relevant.

If the narcissist doesn’t perceive you as a means to glorify himself, you get a ream of typing paper and a bottle of clearance-rack shampoo for Christmas (true story). Only when the narcissist wishes to use the gift-giving as a way to glorify himself does he go all-out.

It’s never about you. It’s always about him. Always.

  5. J.M. Heinrichs Says:

Yes, but his Kenyan connection is largely self-assumed, much like Teddy Kennedy’s deep and abiding support for Irish ‘independence’. Mr Obama wasn’t raised on the tales of his grandfather’s courageous struggle for freedom and his homeland, he learned about it after the fact. And the lack of an effective link to the history of Kenya which apparently he is now presuming should raise questions concerning his commitment to serving US interests in the interests of the US. I would think that the President of the United States should not offer hints that another country’s emotive affairs might be an influence on his POTUS decisions.

    Cheers
