Sprinkles Of Hope

Surber cruelly mocks Obama’s economic stimulus claims. But he needs to do the math. Cop jobs = Sprinkle industry bailout.

President Obama takes credit for Columbus hiring 25 police officers — on a day when the government announced 651,000 jobs were lost.

Obama promised 3.5 million jobs. Rick Klein at ABC’s “The Note” noted that’s 25 down and only 3,499,975 to go.

Not fair. It’s not that simple an equation. That’ll be … let’s see … at a conservative average of two donuts per cop per day, that’s another 18,250 donuts per annum that will be fried, glazed and served in the greater Columbus area, plus joe. Any donutologists, economic confectionists out there who can comment on what the growth potential at Krispy Kreme, Dunks, whatever they have in Columbus, will be as a result of this?

Also, Obama cited the teacher jobs saved in the government, I mean, economic stimulus. Very important. They vote Democratic. Private sector jobs apparently will have to wait for a little more trickleup. Heartfelt plea to public safety professionals. Order yours with sprinkles. Keep the sprinkle sector employed.

Welcome Instapundit, etal. Always good to see you. Trying to figure out when the critics of Cowboy Diplomacy will notice the Sophisticate Tactlessness. Meanwhile, marveling at nature’s fury in a Perfect A-Storm. Also, at how fast the Obama’s anti-warmening tax policy is working. Or is it TR’s carbon offsets?

The Columbus police jobs were featured on NBC last night, and the local spokesbot was gushing about how Obama didn’t “create” new jobs, he “saved” jobs. And it’s true that all of this year’s police academy graduates were going to be without jobs (until they got hired somewhere, that is), if Columbus hadn’t received money to hire them. But forgive me if I cynically view this as just another big media opportunity to CTOA (Cover The One’s @$$).

I saw Obama making this boast on TV yesterday. He’s still campaigning. I don’t think he’ll ever *stop* campaigning, actually. Even Clinton took a couple of years off mid-term to govern, but I think we’ll see non-stop campaigning from Obama for the rest of his term. It makes sense. It’s the only thing he’s good at, and the only part of the job he’s qualified for.

What they did n’t say about the Columbus jobs is that the police force is losing more cops to retirement that this stimulus will hire so that it is still a net loss.

I was reading this in the local Ohio paper in the town where I grew up and that paper, but not the town, is reliably Democratic in orientation. Now is when we need another Paul Harvey to keep telling us the rest of the story that we know our major media will not tell us, the part that is anti-leftist.
