Praisism

You know, when I suggested during the 2008 campaign that we were facing the disturbing prospect of not being able to criticize our president without fear of being slammed as racist,* I got it wrong.

Turns out, you can’t slam Congress without being slammed as a racist.

And you can’t sing the president’s praises without raising the horrible prospect of racism. The Oregonian: Pint-sized Obama fan banned from wearing Obama mask in skit.

Surber’s with the principal’s right to keep politics out of school. Which I’d be inclined to agree with, but it’s unclear that is what the principal’s problem is, because he won’t say. Just calling it “offensive,” which suggests he has other problems. Such as the mask, which appears to be the tripping point in the tap-dance routine. I like the part about Obama doing the splits … maybe the principal objected to the gross inaccuracy of a display of symbolic bipartisanship.

Another take with a helpful example of scholastically acceptable Obamism and Lesbian Seagulls at Perfunction.

  1. Alan Kellogg Says:

Off in fantasy/science fiction fandom we’re seeing yet another round of how racism is evil, white folks are vile, and nobody knows the trouble we’ve seen.

They said if we voted for John McCain racial tensions would be aggravated, and they were right!
