Pay To Play

No more free care for warmongers. And I thought it was the Bush administration that didn’t give a damn about war-wounded veterans. American Legion strongly opposed to Obama admin’s plan to charge wounded heroes. Push a grateful nation’s debt off on private insurers, employers who hire vets, people who work with them. Turns out he isn’t totally for government health care after all.

Hot Air with some thoughts on practical concerns. Blackfive notes he’ll be with some Vets for Obama on this. This Ain’t Hell wants a show of hands on who thinks Shinseki will resign in protest over this. Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom does the math: $540 million budget boost for the VA! From the veterans!

Mr. H recently had both knees replaced in a VA hospital (turned out well, too). Immediately after, while still doing rehab, he was informed that the contracts for orthopedic surgeons at the hospital had been “inadvertently” not renewed. So no more joint replacement is being done there.

Mr. H has insisted that Gen. Shinseki, as a wounded veteran himself, would fight for the rights of veterans. Apparently not.

Yeah, I have to travel from Maine down to Boston for surgery. 3.5 hours each way. No way for family or friends to visit. Roxbury’s not the best neighborhood to hang around in, anyway, but still. I’ve had a number of surgeries, and all of them requiring me to go to Boston because Clinton decided Maine didn’t need a whole big honkin’ fully-staffed VA hospital. Boston, however, gets TWO!

But it does piss me off to no end that our scum bag of a lightworking Prez can come up with 900 million frikkin’ dollars for the terrorists in Gaza, but wants to suck a half-billion from veterans for their healthcare.

Nice to see he has his priorities straight. You can be certain the military will remember this. The anger among veterans I know is unbelievable.

Are Federal employees protected by workmens’ compensation laws? If so, wouldn’t the VA be in violation of that law if it charged veterans for care related to injuries sustained while on the job? It might be worthwhile for affected veterans to have a quick chat with a lawyer. IANAL, so I have no idea if such an argument would hold water.

If you want to help out veterans like AW1 Tim above, one good way is to donate to Fisher House Boston (http://www.fisherhouseboston.org). I first heard about it from local talk radio personality Michael Graham.
