Quagmire!
Washington Post: Anger Over Firm Depletes Obama’s Political Capital.
That was fast.
Here’s a lefty quibbling: AIG bonuses alone won’t derail the Hope-Change train. Good point. It would take more than just that. Dunning war vets for their care while trying to impose socialized medicine, for example. Unrestrained porkfests. 24-hour party people in silly fights with talkshow hosts in the middle of the deepest economic crisis in 70-odd years. That kind of thing.
NYT on the admin’s scramble to close the barn door, with the chief’s vow to get on top of an issue they had known about for months. Bush isn’t even mentioned. That’s big worm-turnage. We’re getting dangerously close to ”Obama lied, Hope-Change died” territory. (Countdown to next presidential “inherited” utterance starts now).
Grassley wants AIG execs to fall on their swords … literally:
“The first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them if they’d follow the Japanese model and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things — resign, or go commit suicide.”
Don’t be ridiculous. That would require a sense of shame and honor. Anyway, seeing as we’re going back to the Great Depression, I believe the American way is out the window.
Gateway has today’s party schedule,* and charts the regrettable convergence of Obama’s approval/disapproval numbers.
Welcome Instapundit, etal. Always good to see you. Come on in, we’re celebrating Evacuation Day, the highest of hack holidays. And pondering redemption.
* Sounds like the Taoiseach gets a better reception than the British Prime Minister. Should play well in the Auld Sod and South Boston. Biden in a leprechaun hat, please. One of the fancy ones, with a buckle on the front and lots of green sparkles.

Why Senator Grassley, what a wonderful idea. In fact, Seppuku should be strongly considered by SOME in the Congress…NOT you of course.
Those “some” have disgraced themselves, Congress, the American people and our nation.

The fault lies not with AIG, the executives are doing what they are required to by contract. The fault is with the politicians who cynically gave “loans” to AIG and other companies. They knew what was going to happen, in fact they WANTED it to happen. Obama and the rest of the Socialist Party want to nationalize every industry, starting with the financial one. Followed by the medical industry, and on and on. This is just one step.
The only solution is to vote out every incumbent and then change the system so that being a politician can never be a career.
Not that it will ever happen.

Hard to remember we’re still in the official Honeymoon phase. The divorce is going to be really ugly.
March 17th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Yes indeed, and that ugly divorce can’t happen soon enough. Looks like the spouse has already maxed out the credit cards, failed to pay the real bills, wrecked the new car, and now is screeching about not having enough money to redecorate the home.
Someone find the Prez and the Congress Critters a boatload of valiums, and send them off to bed for awhile. We’ve got a hell of a mess to clean up, and we can’t have them lounging about and making the place worse.

“Seppuku should be strongly considered by SOME in the Congress”
And hang the rest. We would be better off with 535 names selected at random, than with our current crop of congressmen.
“Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.”
- Mark Twain, a Biography
“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”
- Pudd’nhead Wilson’s New Calendar
