Not Safer!

That’s the word from Obama, who is advancing from arguing with Rush about the economy to arguing with Cheney about the man-caused disasterism formerly known as jihad, but still hasn’t exactly managed to come up a foreign policy or war policy of his own. NYT:

WASHINGTON — President Obama has hit back at former Vice President Dick Cheney, calling Bush administration policy on detainees at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, “unsustainable.”

“How many terrorists have actually been brought to justice under the philosophy that is being promoted by Vice President Cheney?” Mr. Obama said Friday in an interview to be broadcast Sunday on “60 Minutes” on CBS.

The president was responding to recent charges by Mr. Cheney that the administration’s decision to shut down the Guantánamo prison, along with other policies on the treatment of terrorism suspects, would make the United States more vulnerable to attacks.

Bush administration terrorism policy “hasn’t made us safer,” Mr. Obama said, according to excerpts of the interview released Saturday.

“What it has been,” he continued, “is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment.”

Well, he has managed to come up with an anti-American sentiment policy, but between rebuffs from the Ivans and the mullahs, it hasn’t been working out too well so far.

Anyway, a little risky of Obama to tempt fate with “not safer” remarks, given the fact that the Bush admin did in fact manage to thwart numerous 9/11 follow-on attacks.

But the president raises a good question. How many brought to justice? I seem to recall thousands of jihadis brought to justice under U.S. military codes 5.56 and 7.62, as well as under sections MK 82 (GP 500 lb justice), GBU-31 JDAMS (guided, “smart” justice) and the recently much used AGM-114 “Hellfire” program of expedited justice.

But I think Obama is refering to several hundred illegal enemy combatants that he and others feel should be tried in civilian courts in the United States, so he gets a even though after extensive legal wrangling a perfect good program of drumhead military tribuanls had been worked out.

Not so different, not unrelated, Malkin, “Why can’t Obama tell a good joke?”

Surber: Hated Bushitler regime didn’t fluff the pillos at Gitmo! Or put mints on them.

It’s all getting Powerline down. Buck up, Scott! Three years, 10 months left on this ride.
