US backs Danish premier for top NATO post who sounds like he doesn’t want NATO to be a joke. Bush liked Anders Fogh Rasmussem. The Euros like him. Turkey doesn’t like him. He backed freedom of speech in the Motoons case, and sent Danish troops to Iraq. Hey, I like him already … I just can’t believe Obama does. Not clear to me what the point of closer NATO-EU relations is, though. Usually closer relations with the EU means them telling you not to do things. AFP backgrounder. AP notes Denmark is one of the few European countries with combat troops in Afghanistan.
