Non-Unrepentant Ex-Non-Terrorist* Uninvited
Boston College disinvites Ayers, who was due to speak Monday on education reform and civic engagement at the invitation of Americans for Informed Democracy and the College Democrats. Boston Herald.
Ayers could not be reached last night, but before the decision was announced, he said: “This isn’t Saudi Arabia or Cuba. Speech is something we believe in in a democracy.”
He’s right, and it’s too bad. College Democrats have a right to hear Ayers on his explosive ideas about civic engagement, as well as his Big Bang theory of free speech. The education reform part sounds boring, though. But the only legitimate reason for banning him would be if they consider him a disingenuous charlatan and/or jackass who is trying to capitalize on his ex-non-notoriety, as opposed to a respected man of letters with something worthwhile to contribute to public discourse and learning. Unfortunately, Boston College isn’t saying.
Interesting that Ayers is dissing Cuba, by the way. Sounds like he may have gone sour on the Revolucion. Must not have seen “Che.” The Saudis he should have more solidarity with. A group of primarily Saudi anti-American activists, largely Saudi-financed, engaged in coordinated spectacular acts of free speech on the very day an NYT Ayers interview ran that explored the University of Illinois Chicago professor’s enthusiasm for incendiary speech. Possibly it’s professional jealousy.
In other free speech news, former ex-non-Ayers associate Barack Obama’s invitation to speak at another Catholic institution of higher learning, Notre Dame, is causing consternation among the faithful who unappreciate the prior candidate’s views re the non-continuance of ex-pregnancies plus the dis-banning of embryo pithing for research purposes.
* Ayers has denied being unrepentant for things he denies having said he regretted he didn’t do more of. I think. Something like that.

More incredible is the fact that the high school in a wealthy Chicago suburb, Naperville, has invited Ayers to speak to its students but the school has limited Ayers free speech to discussing only his involvement in the weather underground, his role in the presidential campaign and his radical education policy. Boy, they really showed him! Essentially acknowledging the fact that Ayers may not be an appropriate speaker at a high school, the principal is requiring students who plan to attend the event to present signed permission slips from their parents.
The teacher who is arranging this circus is described by his students as, among other things, a “stupid hippie that needs to retire” because he “makes us liberals look bad!” This will be a proud day for those Naperville North Huskies!

I am really sick of that guy, and his loathsome woman, and his buddy the Plagiarist and Fake Indian. I wish they would all accept the fact that it’s not 1968 anymore, and just fade away into the pit of history, never to be remembered with fondness.

They can’t RebeccaH, they have to recapture their youth. The age of free love (before the STD’s) and boundless energy. (Hack, wheeze, etc.) (Damned good drugs, wheeze, wheeze!)
