Do Lunch?

USA Today: Holbrooke meets with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister on the sidelines at the Afghanistan conference in The Hague. Hillary calls it “a promising sign that there will be future cooperation.” They “did not focus on anything substantive. It was cordial, it was unplanned and they agreed to stay in touch.”

Promising for mullahs, maybe. Great stalling prospects, say-one-thing-do-another opportunities. Meanwhile, they get to bash him and bash America, and still be sucked up to, get invited to big international confabs as if they were an actual semi-useful modern government.

Hard not to be cynical. Hope it works out. Meanwhile, here’s another quarter heard from. The Atlantic: Netanyahu to Obama, Stop Iran or I will.

One Response to “Do Lunch?”

  1. RebeccaH Says:

What flabbergasts me is this simple-minded belief in Washington that, after all these years and all the corpses, Iran wants to “talk things out”.
