Hello & Goodbye
Obama shows his face in the country he wants to abandon. NYT. Check the AP art at the NYT link. Jumpy looks a little nervous.
Obama, by the way, graciously admits to Turks he was full of it re Iraq:
“I have a responsibility to make sure that as we bring troops out, that we do so in a careful enough way that we don’t see a complete collapse into violence,” Mr. Obama said. “So some people might say, wait, I thought you were opposed to the war, why don’t you just get them all out right away? Well, just because I was opposed at the outset, it doesn’t mean that I don’t have now responsibilities to make sure that we do things in a responsible fashion.”
Sure.
Malkin: Verily, His Presence alone will resolve issues in the “dumb war.”
Meanwhile, Hot Air on Obama as Ugly American … how the change-hoper’s arrogance managed to PO the Euros.

The Won is probably nervous, considering how many people are beginning to see through his “charisma”.

You are living in an alternate universe. Most Americans approve of a withdrawal from Iraq. His trip overseas was considered to be a success by almost everyone. I’m sorry that Obama not being old and white is so hard for some of you to accept.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
thoreau, this is 2009. Calling everyone who disagrees with you racist doesn´t work anymore. The Democrat party is full of old, white lefties and I despise the lot of them. Not gonna make an exception for Obama because you have a crush on him.
Try to get this into your head: not everything is about public relations. Polls and votes come and go, but they cannot validate or negate bad policies.
April 7th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
You are right. It is 2009 and the lot of you are dinosaurs. Get used to “lefties” because the world is progressing even though your party isn’t.
Speaking of bad policies, thanks Republican party for 8 years of them! Great job!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Well, actually, I’m not a Republican, and I’m pretty sure a lot of people who post here know that the Republican party bears its share of blame for the mess we’re in. I did vote for John McCain, not because he’s old and white, but because I thought he would be less of a disaster than the current President has so far proven to be. If you think my opinion of Obama is racist, then you don’t really understand the nature of racism, or of legitimate criticism.
You must be very young, thoreau (and still captured by the romance of a Walden Pond style world), but don’t worry. You’ll survive the shock when reality hits you in the face.

Thoreau was an imbecile who was rightly shunned by most who knew him. His writings are those of a naive young man, quite unaware of the realities of the world, and refusing to accept adulthood and his responsibilities as a citizen.
Those who embrace his works are likewise those who want little to do with actually having to produce something to support themselves, leaving the bulk of their subsistence to better people than they will ever be, essentially becoming societal parasites.
That you have chosen his name as your moniker speaks volumes about both you and your education. I’m guessing you went to a public school, right?
As to the past 8 years, regardless of his domestic agenda, the foreign policies of George W. Bush will rank alongside the wartime accomplishments of Washington and Lincoln. He saw his duty to the nation clearly and he solidly went about accomplishing those tasks.
I find it highly representative of the current POTUS that the lasting image of him from this past trip is his bowing and scraping before the mysoginistic ruler of an eastern kingdom. No other president has EVER bowed to royalty. We fought a war to dethrone royalty and all such titular society from our chores, to be forever banished. Yet here is the naive Chicagoan, in one swell gesture highlighting everything that the left stands for.
Yes… I think that the leftists elected the perfect representative of their agenda to the White House, and in that election, millions of Americans wept in heaven at such a sad accomplishment.

Thoreau77 -
Obama is not old and white, and neither is he a competent manager of anything nor remotely qualified for the office he has attained. He ain’t run nuthin’ but his mouth (as someone once said of Jesse Jackson) and that is my objection to him. I would absolutely vote for a black person who was qualified for the office, but this national experiment with expunging our “history of racism” will likely turn out badly.
The times in which we are living demand a person with steel in his spine, but O’Bama can be rolled. He is a thin-skinned weenie who wants adulation above all. If we are lucky, there will be no events to which he must respond. But his lack of guiding principles beyond seeking admiration for reading well will invite the world’s bullies to come and poke him in the nose. They may do that with nu-ku-lar weapons.
I cast my first vote for President for Jimmy Carter, to my eternal shame. He is the reason I voted for Reagan the next chance I got. If you’re lucky, your eyes will be similarly opened by O’Bama and you’ll vote for someone competent next time.
In the meantime, I’m afraid we’re all going to get used to “lefties”, but we’re not going to be able to afford it.

Right. It’s o.k. to have tens of thousands of troopers sitting on their asses in Europe and Asia for 50-60 years, but it’s not o.k. to have troops fighting Baathists and terrorists in Iraq.
Whatever.

thoreau,
What´s progressive about bringing back the failed policies of the 1930s and 1960s? Retarded is the new progressive?
Anyway, nice evasion. Let´s not forget your accusation of racism just now. Obama gets treated just like every other leftwing idiot. It´s called equality. Or do you think he must be untouchable because of his race? Does that also apply to black conservatives? Did you celebrate their advancement? Of course you didn´t.

I’ve been staying out of this. But I can’t stay silent any more. I am deeply offended by the naked anti-old white guyism. I thought we were living in a post-anti-old-white-guy society. The anti-dinosaurist remarks were also hurtful. You know what they say. First, they came for the dinosaurs … uh, looks like she’s taken off, anyway. I like the bit about “Most Americans approve of a withdrawal from Iraq. His trip overseas was considered to be a success by almost everyone.” Most Americans also approve of shopping at Wal-Mart, eating at McDonald’s and driving their cars a lot, but you don’t hear lefties advocating those positions.
April 8th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Contrary to your simple minded thought process, TIM, “lefties” can be productive and hardworking. I admire Thoreau but I do not live in a cabin by a pond. I actually work full time and go to college full time. I paid my own way through college as well. I suppose the best any of you can do is insult Thoreau (haha!), attack liberals and predict what sort of high school I attended. Great debate folks.
I suppose I am young but I am not naive. “Lefties” tend to be more highly educated than conservatives therefore we think for ourselves. Have you noticed that there are more progessive people in America today? That is no accident. Fear tactics won’t frighten people into becoming conservative or anti Obama. I’m sure that saddens you.
Enjoy your closeminded dinasaur sewing circle. I won’t be back.

*dinosaur. I typed that quickly.
Thanks for blocking me, by the way. I had to make a new account in order to respond. I see that this site prefers to only hear opinions from right wingers.
God bless America.
April 8th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
And yet here you are, unblocked. You can go away mad but you’re welcome to stay naive. Commenters of all stripes, even vaguely racist and ageist ones, are always welcome as long as they don’t get vile. That’s when they get blocked. And erased.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
And may I say, the responses were all articulate and correctly spelled. Perhaps “conservatives” are not quite as toothless and uneducated as thoreau77 imagines.
Btw, thoreau, if you’re still reading and seething, the reference to a Walden Pond style world was a metaphor of “lefty” ideas. No one thought you were living in a shack by a pond. I don’t imagine you’d last long without the running water and the bug zapper anyway.

“Calling everyone who disagrees with you racist doesn´t work anymore.”
Considering that it’s always been the Democrats who were the racists (and still are), I’d say that one never worked.
Adherents of the political party that championed slavery, created Jim Crow segregation, and packed thousands of American citizens off to concentration camps because their ancestors came from Japan are calling ME a racist???
Pardon me while I ROTFLMAO.
