Quid Pro Quo Sought

Lefty bloggers tired of being saps for lefty PACs, non-profits and Dems, would rather be whores. Greg Sargent, WP’s The Plumline.

“They come to us, expecting us to give them free publicity, and we do, but it’s not a two way street,” Jane Hamsher, the founder of FiredogLake, said in an interview. “They won’t do anything in return. They’re not advertising with us. They’re not offering fellowships. They’re not doing anything to help financially, and people are growing increasingly resentful.”

Hamsher singled out Americans United for Change, which raises and spends big money on TV ad campaigns driving Obama’s agenda, as well as the constellation of groups associated with it, and the American Association of Retired Persons, also a big TV advertiser.

“Most want the easy way — having a big blogger promote their agenda,” adds Markos Moulitsas, the founder of DailyKos. “Then they turn around and spend $50K for a one-page ad in the New York Times or whatever.” Moulitsas adds that officials at such groups often do nothing to engage the sites’s audiences by, say, writing posts, instead wanting the bloggers to do everything for them.

What do they think, hacks and flacks will be grateful? Almost sounds like Kos thinks NYT is getting a payoff for services rendered. That’s interesting. Like NYT is just a great big Kos. Sounds deeply wrong all around. Sounds about right, though.

Call me a rube but I’m a little surprised these people allowed themselves to be shamelessly used in the first place. Partisanship all around, but whatever happened to just saying what you think?  I vaguely recall being approached a few times by flacks and hacks who wondered whether I wanted their talking points, but I prefer to shill for what I give a damn about all on my own, thanks.* I haven’t noticed the kind of bucket-toting the lefties just admitted to elsewhere on the right half of the blogosphere, either. Love to know how Kos and FDL readers will feel knowing their stars are tools, but I’d guess it won’t be much of an issue.

Hey, speaking of shilling for cash, don’t forget to stop by Crittenden’s Boutique Right-Wing Warmonger Bookshop. For the contemplative war criminal or unhinged armchair hero in your life. Lefty peaceniks and non-committal history buffs also welcome. Something for everyone.

* Pols are welcome to rent space via Blogads and put whatever they want on it. I’ll take your money.

Maybe Kos should get a job. Say, flippin’ burgers at McDonald’s. That’s about his level.

“If sites like fdl or kos start getting subsidized by the Democratic Party they may lose their credibility or the appearance that they can be objective.”
‘Smooth Like Remy’ was consuming cheap brandy in order to write that; but a check of his site hints that conspiracies are spices on his ice cream.

    Cheers

I think that, perhaps, our friends on the left are slowly coming to the realization that their “date” isn’t returning their calls for a reason. They hooked up and had a great time, but it wasn’t love and it wasn’t for forever. It was only for “the moment” and now they understand they’ve been had. Heh…

You’d think that all these leftist “free love” & “if it feels good, do it!” types would understand that it’s Karma.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

Sounds like a lot of whining that Mommy didn’t buy the toy they wanted.
