Victory At Last!
All it needed was the triumphant arrival of the conquering president. via White House:
Under enormous strain and under enormous sacrifice, through controversy and difficulty and politics, you’ve kept your eyes focused on just doing your job. And because of that, every mission that’s been assigned — from getting rid of Saddam, to reducing violence, to stabilizing the country, to facilitating elections — you have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country. That is an extraordinary achievement, and for that you have the thanks of the American people.
(insert cheers here)
… And so just as we thank you for what you’ve already accomplished, I want to say thank you because you will be critical in terms of us being able to make sure that Iraq is stable, that it is not a safe haven for terrorists, that it is a good neighbor and a good ally, and we can start bringing our folks home.
(cheer some more)
… The last point I want to make is I know how hard it’s been on a lot of you. You’ve been away from your families, many of you for multiple rotations. You’ve seen buddies of yours injured and you remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Don’t forget the bit about how hard it was to have to listen through six years of war and sacrifice as unprincipled, gutless pols tried to abandon it, tried to use it for personal political gain, tried to make all that sacrifice for nothing, and disparaged every bit of it while pretending to care about those who did it. Thank God Obama and the rest of his friends in the Democratic-led Congress failed at that, even if he didmanage to cycnically use opposition to the war he is now praising to launch himself into the White House.
Also, don’t forget George Bush, without whom Saddam would still be in power, and Iraq would still be a safe haven for terrorists, probably well back into its nuclear weapons program in an arms race with Iran by now, and well into whatever program it had in mind with its al-Qaeda contacts. Georeg Bush deserves a big shout out for thwarting all of that, even if Obama doesn’t want to give him one.
The main point I want to make is we have not forgotten what you have already done, we are grateful for what you will do, and as long as I am in the White House, you are going to get the support that you need and the thanks that you deserve from a grateful nation.
I dunno, I’d say the main point is Obama has finally figured out what they have already done, and started giving a damn, and will be grateful if his meddling doesn’t make them fail, but only because he doesn’t want to wear it. Oh yeah, and blah blah blah support and thanks.
As usual, the rank hypocrisy is passing largely unnoticed in the public arena. Looking on the bright side, Obama just gave the Iraq War his unqualified stamp of approval, start to finish. So even if he declined to give credit everywhere it is due, in his bid to suck up to the troops he just inadvertantly initiated the popular rehabilitation of George Bush and the Iraq War. Thank you, Barack Obama. You craven bounder.
Malkin on the AP on Obama’s masterful and glorious use of the military as a prop-backdrop.
“Silence of the TOTUS.” Great war photo opportunist and his teleprompter, silent on Somalia. Surber.
Regarding Obama’s apology tour. Powerline.
In other shameless self-serving BS, Biden claims he used to bitchslap George Bush all the time. Gateway.
Back to that war thing, Obama’s not only singing Bush’s tune, he may soon be feeling his pain … in the Democratic-led Congress. Hot Air.
