Go Ahead, Make His Day
Damn I miss that guy. But we don’t have to miss him, he hasn’t gone away. Cheney to Obama: Release all the memos, you sanctimonious wimp.
OK, that’s not exactly how he said it. via Drudge:
“One of the things that I find a little bit disturbing about this recent disclosure is they put out the legal memos, the memos that the CIA got from the Office of Legal Counsel, but they didn’t put out the memos that showed the success of the effort. And there are reports that show specifically what we gained as a result of this activity. They have not been declassified.”
“I formally asked that they be declassified now. I haven’t announced this up until now, I haven’t talked about it, but I know specifically of reports that I read, that I saw that lay out what we learned through the interrogation process and what the consequences were for the country.”
“And I’ve now formally asked the CIA to take steps to declassify those memos so we can lay them out there and the American people have a chance to see what we obtained and what we learned and how good the intelligence was, as well as to see this debate over the legal opinions.”
Well, sounds good, but the handwringing, shorts-in-a-twist crowd isn’t much interested in that. For 40-odd years now, they haven’t been invested in the defense of America, or even the defense of American values that they are now squawking about. It’s been about denying America, disparaging America, showing how indefensible America is, and when they finally have something as good as waterboarding to pour over the strapped-down right wing’s collective face, they’ll hardly want to mess that up with extraneous details. Especially extraneous details that mess up the preferred Bush-made-us-less-safe storyline.
Whole FOX thing here. Props to TalkLeft, who’s on board with truth and reconciliation, as opposed to cherrypicking and recriminations. Andrew Sullivan appears to have been stunned into relative silence. How diabolical of Our Dark Lord Cheney …
Ha. Here’s a lefty who found something to be indignant about. “How dare that punching bag bounce back?” OK, that’s not exactly how Dipby put it:
Did someone forget to tell Dick that he has no authority anymore to formally or informally ask the CIA to do jack?
I don’t ever remember a former president, much less a former vice president, behaving like this after he’s out of office. Can’t he find some GOP hacks to do this for him? It’s embarrassing.
I bet its embarrassing. Makes his guy look like a deceitful, manipulative wienie, and not a very bright one. (Here’s how it works, Doucheby: In America, anyone can ask the CIA, or the CIA’s boss, which is the president, to do anything they want. Much as lefties spent the last eights years demanding the president and the CIA and the military do all kinds of things. It’s called “freedom of speech.” Re your point on former proper ex-POTUS/VP decorum, google “Jimmy Carter.”)
Meanwhile, via NYT, Obama to CIA, “Don’t hate me because I sucked up to the CIA-bashing left.” OK, that’s not exactly how he said it.
Re Our Dark Lord Cheney, here’s Gateway’s got vid and notes three AQ suspects is nothing … the United States has waterboarded thousands of American soldiers. Toldjah isn’t holding her breath on Obie stepping up to the Cheney challenge.
Different, not entirely unrelated, Malkin re Dems unclear on the concept. Napolitano fails to grasp one of the fundamental tenets of homeland security: Unauthorized border crossing is illegal.

Ah, Digby. Leave it to an authoritarian to ask a dissident to produce his papers.

The odd thing here is that Cheney is showing Obama to be weak. The world - especially Al Quaeda is watching the conversation. Obama has already shown himself to be weak by apologizing to nearly every nation on earth.
Our enemies see this as weakness and will receive increased numbers of recruits. What better recruiting tool is there than an uninformed, weak and timid adversary?

I’m with Cheney: if you’re going to release some of the information about interrogation techniques and the resulting intelligence info gained, then release all of it, and let the chips fall where they may. Or does President IWon and his boss, Pelosi/Reid, fear what that might do to his (their) agenda?

Any citizen has the authority to request that the federal government declassify and provide a document per the FOI Act.
If the government agency in question decides that the requested document needs to remain classified, and not be released, then you can take them to court where a federal judge will review the case, and make the decision.
Ignorant leftoid twat.

Has Digby forgotten some of the …well….garbage that former President “Jimmah” Carter has spewed in the 29 years since he was moved out of the White House? He’s slammed each and every president (Dem or Rep) and embraced every anti-Ameircan dictator the world over. And he thinks what Cheney said is embarassing?
