Condi Vs. The Pantywaists

Scott Horton at Harper’s, no slouch as a pantywaist himself, gives it to the pantywaists in a TKO as Condi butts heads with indignant lefty students at Stanford.

For eight years, Condoleezza Rice dealt with the Beltway punditry and the access-craving White House press corps. The reception she got, with a handful of exceptions, was fawning. Which leaves her totally unprepared for a return to an academy populated with the Daily Show generation: bright young minds with a very critical attitude towards the last eight years. In a meeting with Stanford students at a dormitory reception on April 27, the school’s former provost got off to a shaky start and ended in a train wreck. She may in fact have her last words in the exchange quoted back to her some day in a law court.

James Delingpole at UK Telegraph looks at the same bout, likes Condi in the fight, calls it a knockout:

Her coolness under fire is magnificent, but more impressive still is her refusal to duck the issues. “Sorry we have to leave”, an official can be heard saying off camera, but Condi isn’t going to take the easy way out: she wants to stand up for her principles and put the pantywaists in their place.

“Let me tell you something: unless you were there in a position of responsibility after September 11 you cannot possibly imagine the dilemmas that we faced in trying to protect Americans,” she says.

“A lot of people are second guessing now but let me tell you the second guessing that would have hurt me more is if there had been 3,000 more Americans dying because we didn’t do everything we could to protect them.”

“If you were in a position of authority and watched Americans jumping out of 80-storey buildings because these murderous tyrants go after innocent people then you would have determined to do anything you could that was legal to prevent that happening.”

“Maybe before you make allegations about Guantanamo, you should READ,” says Condi, with exquisitely measured scorn.

I have been enamoured with Ms Rice for many years. Not only is she a conservative, but articulate, well learned, a former Provost of Stanford, and an accomplished pianist. It must grate leftists souls rather painfully, to note that she is not only a woman of class, but an African-American to boot.

Sort of destroys all their bigoted views of how certain “victim groups” should behave, eh?

  2. RebeccaH Says:

The little twit certainly looked chagrined, from what I could tell in the video. After all, he’s a college student, he’s supposed to know the truth, and here’s this black woman shooting down his talking points (in a reasoned, polite manner even), and he can’t scream dirty names at her because she’s a woman, and black.

  3. RebeccaH Says:

On second thought, erase the “woman” bit. It certainly didn’t help Sarah Palin any.

  4. Robert Says:

“bright young minds with a very critical attitude towards the last eight years”

    or rude, ignorant, juvenile, know-it-alls.

    Take your pick.

  5. Onedumb Says:

Perhaps Horton should consider the 100,000 Dead in
the Tokyio fire bombing and the 40,000 plus Dead in
the Dresdon bombing as victims of torture?

    A Democrat administration Mr. Horton!

  6. Dave Surls Says:

    “Scott Horton”

    Worthless, lying scumbag.

  7. J.M. Heinrichs Says:

Perhaps Mr Horton is only seeking to uphold the traditions of Laphamistic journalism.

    Cheers

  8. FeFe Says:

I like how Condi asks if he knows who stopped the Gitmo trials, and doesn’t give the answer. “Caterpillars on the mother f—ing plane!” would surely upset this unicorn.
