French Achievement

The Frogs excel at eating and sleeping. via Boston Herald. Mexicans have less fun. Though chicos have more fun than chiquitas. Koreans are the skinniest. I’m pretty sure they aren’t including North Korea, because forced starvation is not fair.

All fascinating though it sounds to me like the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which conducted this study of leisure time in 18 of its 30 member states, has too much time on its hands.

Here’s the actual study. It’s a bit dense, looks like it involved a heck of a lot of work,* but I did find that in terms of time spent on non-work activities, we’re about in the middle. We’re second to the French in sleeping, but work four hours more a week. I’d argue our hours should probably be weighted over theirs but that’s a separate issue.  We’re beaten by the Icelanders in terms of work, nosed out by the Poles, and tied with the Hungarians and the Czechs. The Canadians, who actually work less than the French, and most of our Euro pals tend to lag by a few hours.

* Given that OECD is based in Paris, it would be interesting to see a study on the work and leisure habits of the people who produced this thing. Given their employment in a pan-governmental wank tank, I’ll hazard they’re near the lower end of their own charts on the work front and near the top on leisure.

They should have inverted the second graph and called it ‘countries with the prettiest women’.

    ;)

There are so many needs in this world, and someone is wasting money on this?

Sigh… where can I sign up to get paid to do these things?

I’m sure you have it wrong. The relevant European conglomerate for progression in human affairs is none other than the Paris-based Association of Cooperation and Organization. Patent pending.
