Deadline Issues
The hated Crusader gulag gets a reprieve as the Obama admin misses its deadline, extends for another six months. No, not the deadline on closing Guantanamo. The deadline for reporting on how they plan to do that. Surber does the honors:
Six months ago, The Won promised a report on the U.S. detention and interrogation policy by July 21, as part of his promise to close Gitmo by January. Today, the administration announced the report will be delayed — for 6 more months.
… give the guy a break. He’s only been on the job 6 months. He is smart enough to realize now how nonsensical all his campaign trash talk about Gitmo was.
Charitable of Surber, who notes the bulk of the scribbling classes were disinclined to give Bush any breaks on anything. Anyway, looks like the only thing harder than fighting a war on terrorism is staying up on a high horse.
In other important Obama admin deadline news, the push for a health-care overhaul bill by August just got pushed back to December due to technical difficulties. via Boston Herald. Facing plummeting poll numbers, Obama is enlisting lefty bloggers to help him on Capitol Hill. Sounds kind of desperate. Memeorandum rounds that up.
You know, I remember a time when a president facing trouble like that … poll numbers down, pols turning on him … would see his initiatives routinely refered to as “Bush’s deeply unpopular … ” and “quagmire,” that kind of thing. But in fairness, the health-care overhaul, the GWOT shutdown and the economic stimulus, Afghan war and Iranian nuke talks overtures for that matter probably aren’t Iraq bad yet. Hope not, for Obama’s sake. That would be trouble, this early in the Hope and Change era.
via HotAir, Rasmussen has Obama and Romney neck and neck. Hard to believe. Maybe Obama’s fortunes are headed into Iraq territory after all.

I doubt we’ll ever see him described in the mainstream media quite the way Bush was, no matter how unpopular he gets. Lots of “embattled” and “frustrated,” though.

If and when his policies get consigned to the dustbin it will be whispered that, really, we all know the reason was AmeriKKKa’s latent racism, not the craptastic nature of the policies or the arrogance with which they were handed down to us mere mortals.
