Lashley did took a lot of courage. They're bucking against a particularly vocal, and unintrospective, part of their community because they believe in a larger truth: that this is America, and we are all Americans living according to the law of the land, irrespective of race, religion, gender orientation, political belief, and all the rest of it. If Professor Gates were honest at all, he'd recognize that, and publicly acknowledge it. I’d name Ms. King by her police title, if I knew what it was, but what she and Sgt.
