War On Terror’s Over!

I guess that means Bush won. Ha ha, just kidding!

Seriously, the Obamists haven’t quite figured out how to fight it yet … their best ideas have been to keep Bush’s best ideas going … but they do know how they want to talk about it. They’re all done with the “war on terrorism.” Jon Ward and Eli Lake at the Washington Times explain:

It’s official. The U.S. is no longer engaged in a “war on terrorism.” Neither is it fighting “jihadists” or in a “global war.”

President Obama’s top homeland security and counterterrorism official took all three terms off the table of acceptable words inside the White House during a speech Thursday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank.

“The President does not describe this as a ‘war on terrorism,’” said John Brennan, head of the White House homeland security office, who outlined a “new way of seeing” the fight against terrorism.

The only terminology that Mr. Brennan said the administration is using is that the U.S. is “at war with al Qaeda.”

So it is a war after all. Interesting. I thought Democratic orthodoxy was that all it needed to be was a police action. Brennan goes on to explain that Obama doesn’t want anyone thinking the United States is at war with Islam. I thought George Bush had that covered, repeatedly stating it, bending over backward to acknowledge Muslim concerns, sending U.S. troops into battle alongside Muslim allies.

Never mind. None of this is really news. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had already delivered the ixnay on errorism-tay when she designated the matters of concern as “man-caused disasters.” Which frankly showed a little more originality of thought, greater non-Muslim-bashing relativism and a fundamental you-say-tomaato-I-say-tomahto humanism that you won’t find in Brennan’s namby-pamby half-steps.

OK, moving on. It sounds like they’ve figured out how they plan to talk the talk. Now, all they need to do is walk the walk.

Speaking of which, here’s some cynical Bushite mocking the Obamists for playing semantic games:

Juan Zarate, a former deputy national security adviser for counterterrorism to President George W. Bush, was in the audience and dismissed Mr. Brennan’s speech as cosmetic in nature.

The focus on terminology, he said, is “almost a nonissue.”

“It’s a straw man. The question is, how do you deal with the policy?” Mr. Zarate said.

Good point. I say blame Bush. I think what Mr. Zarate is failing to grasp is, that is the policy.

I guess that lets the Taliban off he hook.

We’ve dealt with other liberal police actions! The only problem is that the innocent people will get slaughtered when we run. Liberal honor = oxymoron
