They Fete Terrorists, Don’t They?

Scottish justice minister explains a “matter of regret.” The terrorism-supporting dictatorship had promised not to embarrass him with a lot of hoopla when he freed their airline bomber. The terrorism-supporting dictatorship had assured him “any return would be dealt with in a low-key and sensitive fashion.” via Boston Herald, here’s Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill addressing the Scottish parliament:

“It is a matter of great regret that Mr. Megrahi was received in such an inappropriate manner. It showed no compassion or sensitivity to the families of the 270 victims of Lockerbie.”

Not to be confused with the lack of compassion or sensitivity to the families of the 270 victims of Lockerbie shown by Mr. MacAskill.

Anyway, there may be a deeper foreign policy lesson to be drawn from this matter of regret. If Mr. MacAskill had been paying any attention to U.S.-Iranian relations lately, he’d know that trying to cut deals and kowtowing to terrorism-supporting dictatorships will always get you a slap in the face. Heck, if the Obama adminstration was paying attention to U.S.-Iranian relations lately, or U.S.-North Korean and U.S.-Russian relations, for that matter, the Obama admin would know that … never mind.

Meanwhile, some New Jersey officials who don’t care to provide Moammar Gadhafi with any propaganda opportunities during his upcoming United Nations harangue are trying to eightsix him from a Libyan-owned mansion in Englewood, currently undergoing renovations and the suspected site of Mo’s next Bedouin tent encampment. via Boston Herald

Good luck. It’s within the 25-mile radius of New York that representatives of despotic nations are allowed to travel when here on UN business.

Malkin suggests writing to the U.S. State Department. Always good to let your government know how you feel, but I’d refer Malkin to the above paragraph regarding the Obama admin. You’re on your own, Englewood. You could always park a municipal garbage truck upwind from Camp Mo, something like that, but that would be wrong. Here’s an idea. Invite Lockerbie victims’ families. Give them the key to your city. Provide them with permits for a sidewalk encampment of their own, if that’s what they want to do. Provide them with big Coleman tents and campstoves. Provide them with loudspeakers.
