Gadhaffy Dhuck

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to look forward to the visit. Libyan tinpot dictator/wackjob Moammar Gadhafi is sputtering mad and plans to demand the abolition of Switzerland while he’s in front of that august body, the U.N. General Assembly. He’s cheesed at the Swiss over the arrest of the drunken, violent apple of his eye, Hannibal Gadhafi, who pulled a nutty in Cuckooclockville. My old Boston Herald pal Helen Kennedy at NY Daily News explains:

The Libya-Swiss kerfuffle began a year ago, when Khadafy’s youngest son, Hannibal Khadafy, and his pregnant wife were arrested in a Geneva luxury hotel for beating two servants with a belt and a coat-hanger.

Hannibal Khadafy had previously been busted in both  France and Italy for beating a woman and fighting a cop, and once for driving drunk down Paris’ Champs Elysee at 90 mph  - the wrong way.

Libya retaliated with fury, recalling some diplomats, suspending visas for Swiss citizens, withdrawing funds from Swiss banks, shuttering the Tripoli office of Nestle and threatening to cut off oil deliveries to Switzerland.

Two Swiss businessmen were barred from leaving the country until Libya received an apology for Hannibal’s arrest.

Two weeks ago, Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz sought to win their release after a year by traveling to Tripoli to apologize for the arrest.

Libya promised to let the hostages go by Sept. 1 - but reneged. Now Merz is fending off calls for his resignation.

I’ll be surprised if Mad Mo can’t win a General Assembly vote, unless all the other tinpot dictators remember where their money is. Here’s a thought. Can’t arrest Moammar on general principle, for running a terrorist operation, anything like that when he’s here to address the United Nations. But seeing as he’s clearly wacked, how about a civil commitment? Put him in a padded cell until he frees to the Swiss businessmen. OK, maybe that’s a bit Soviet. Seeing as he doesn’t give a damn about international law, howabout we ignore United Nations rules and just deport him to Switzerland, give that dolt Merz a chance to redeem himself?

Yeah, I know, Obama admin, never met a dictator they couldn’t negotiate with. At least the families of Pan Am Flt 103 victims get a chance to call him a murderer to his face.
