Midnight Self-Massacre

Gutless wonder of a conspiracy theorist quits gutless wonder of a White House in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Labor Day weekend. Good work, Rahm. It’ll be out of the papers by Tuesday. Given that the Van Jones Truther scandal was barely covered in the first place, it’s like it never happened.

Washington Post’s 44 blog here. NYT here. AP here. OK, that’s the news. Here’s the story:

Gateway: Communist leaves White House! Maguire, meanwhile, awards the scalp to Gateway.

The Other McCain is multiple-update blogging the hasty exit.

Legal Insurrection: Can’t a blogger get a full night’s sleep around here?

Powerline: He was the Jeremiah Wright that almost didn’t get away.

Malkin: “Bay Area Marxist/Truther/Mumia-supporting race hustler-turned-environmental justice guru Van Jones has resigned from his post as Barack Obama’s green jobs czar.” Wow, when she puts it that way …

HotAir, hurtfully: “Vicious smear campaign” was comprised of actual quotes.

Reynolds, even more hurtfully, links to C-SPAN video of Van advising high school kids on careers in government. Updating that might actually be a good follow-on gig for Van.

Some quick Van jokes.

Riehl: Van goes under bus!

Surber: Don’t worry, he won’t be living in a van … down by the river. Taking one for the team has its rewards.

Meanwhile, Steyn, who hurtfully smeared Obama for his Saddam/Kim Jong Il style “cult of personality,” really owes the White House an apology. This airbrushing was worthy of Stalin. Other NRO commenters at the link admire the assist the Politburo has gotten from the state-controlled media.

The Moderate Voice: A case of poor vetting …

Funny, that’s how I feel about the Obama administration, too.

Aww, this is cute. Fellow-traveling Think Progress, wielding an aribrushlet: Racist right-wing conspiracy/hate campaign drives out smiling, well-intentioned, plucky environmental advocate. It’s an interesting presentation that makes no mention of you know what.

Andrew Sullivan, to his credit, notices why Van was hounded out, but finds the gleefulness unseemly. Hey Andrew, your thoughts please on the unseemliness of a White House that didn’t want to talk about it and quietly brooms him in the middle of the night on Labor Day weekend?

Whatever. You know, it’s one thing to be a crazy, destructive, self-loathing, America-hating conspiracy theorist. But I have a hard time summoning up any respect for crazy, destructive, self-loathing, America-hating conspiracy theorists who don’t even have the conviction of their own crazy, destructive, self-loathing, America-hating conspiracy theories. Or for their bosses who try to pretend like none of that ever happened. The gutlessness is truly wondrous.

OK, moving on … when does the White House quietly, in the dark of night, on a holiday weekend, when no one will notice, put two in the hat of Van Jones’ other crazy, destructive, self-loathing, America-hating conspiracy theory? The one now euphemistically known as “climate change” that holds we must destroy our economy to stop the Earth from doing what it has been doing for the past 4.5 billion years.
