Sacré Flu!
The swine flu-fearing French say “non!” to the double-cheek kiss.* via Boston Herald.
This major cultural upheaval is apparently raising alarm in France, on a par with the uproar over the introduction of subversive terms such as “le weekend” and “l’hamburger.”
La crise de la grippe de porcs also is leading to enhanced personal sanitation recommendations by French authorities, who advocate frequent handwashing. No indication of any imminent outbreak of regular bathing, however.
* Zut alors! Imagine the entire city of Paris reduced to a mass Marcel Marceau invisible wall exercise, and you get an idea of the scope of the crisis.
